foot-loose wrote:I read this in the paper earlier - it struck me as a ploy by waterstones. I may be being cynical, but I would be interested to know how much money Waterstones have made from the sales of the Harry Potter books. The end of the series must spell a dip in yearly sales?

S4B wrote:Footy I'll tell you in confidence cos I can't disclose figures. The sum is interesting and is definitely less than any of you earn in a month!

I've only just read this thread...... and........ er.................. *cough* bull crap *cough cough*.

Well, she didn't really make a point to be fair, more just said it aint so (in her opinion).

I can't see them making pittance on the sales of the books though, it's going to be a large ammount and no mistaking.

She told foot-loose in the chat room what the figure was and I wasn't convinced either. In fact I was positively unconvinced.

It's a minus figure apparently.

Hmmmmm I like your logic Footsman........ I agree, if she's right, then she's telling the truth, conversly if she's wrong, I fear she may be telling lies.

And if that had crossed the line it would have been a goal.

the thing is, i could easily see them sell the books for a loss only to make up for it in licensing and merchandising. that's where the money is.

I can see how the publishers would do that, but not the bookseller, surely?

Oh Yudyud, the book sellers don't sleep at night.

The other thing is the increase in traffic through their doors, it's not just the Potter book sales that will increase.

bag speaks the truth! it's why amazon's selling the book below cost and with free shipping. they expect you to buy other stuff at the same time, and they're probably right.

The TV ad is the same now - apparently all the other "sales" are merely special offers and unbeatable deals.

Don't want to rub anyone up the wrong way or put anybody's nose out of joint but I'll be so glad when all this Harry Potter stuff is over. I've seen the first three films which were okay but nothing special, but I refuse point blank to read the books because I'm sick and tired of all the hype. Every time a book or a movie comes out, all you see is Harry Potter, Harry Potter, Harry Potter. What also narks me is the sycophants making money off something they haven't had a hand in creating.

Maybe when the hue and cry dies down and the mainstream have moved on to other things, maybe I'll pick up the first book. But not until.

Your spelling's fine Console.

Dude I'm disappointed in you. The films are rubbish (mind you the new one's quite good) But the books are great and you really should give them a go.
