Anyone been listening to Greg James, who appears to be a new Presenter on Radio 1. He's been covering for JK & Joel and is now covering for Sara Cox due to illness.

He's settling in slowly. Nothing to write home about yet, but its early dyas, and Radio 1 obviously think he's got a future. Certainly better than Nihal (and I don't actually mind Nihal).

Greg lands Radio 1 show

A University Of East Anglia student has been handed a run of shows on Radio 1. Greg James will be the envy of his mates who broadcast on student station Livewire when he takes over the controls at the world-famous studios for five shows in June.

Former Radio Norfolk work experience assistant Greg James has already sat in the seat Chris Moyles used while presenting his Radio 1 breakfast show from Norwich a few weeks ago.

But from next month the 21-year-old will be handing over to the station's self-proclaimed saviour when he hosts a run of shows.

The Norwich student has just landed five shows on one of the world's biggest stations during June - taking over JK and Joel's early morning slot from 4 to 7am each Friday.
Balancing act

The news that he's been handed a sought-after programme on Radio 1 couldn't come at a busier time for the University Of East Anglia undergraduate.

His will present his first show the day after he gives his final ever performance for his drama degree.

The run-up to the big day will be a juggling act, but Greg said he's focused on presenting a good show to Radio 1's enviable audience.

"I've just got to forget about everything and concentrate on these five shows," he said.

"I've got to make sure I'm at home with the desk and I keep writing ideas down in my mobile phone."
Student awards

Greg caught the attention of Radio 1 bosses after scooping Best Male Presenter last year at the Student Radio Awards for his work on the UEA's Livewire station.

The prize was to host a one-hour show on Radio 1, during which Greg struck up a good rapport with his producer who passed on the budding presenter's tapes to the bosses.

In April, Greg was invited back to London to do a pilot show which secured him the early breakfast slots, which both Chris Moyles and Scott Mills started off hosting.
Job offer

The opportunity has meant that Greg has had some difficult choices to make though.

Greg has been working at Galaxy radio in Newcastle during his holidays, covering for presenters and the station had offered him a job - but he's determined to make the most of his big break in the capital.

"I was just about to sign a 12-month contract with Galaxy when Radio 1 called," he said.

"It could to lead to everything or nothing," he said. "If I get a chance to be in London and then end up making tea at Radio 1 afterwards I'm happy."
Life-long dream

The student - who DJs under the name of Greg James but is known to his nearest and dearest as Greg Milward - has wanted to be on radio since he was 10.

His first foray into presenting on hospital radio in his home town of Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire was unsuccessful as none of his programmes ever made it to air due to a troublesome transmitter - but things improved when he moved to Norwich to study.

Greg spent the first two years of university life presenting his own entertainment-based show on Livewire, moving up to be the station's manager last year.

He also spent a year working at Radio Norfolk, helping the sports team prepare its four-hour programme every Saturday and is a regular sofa guest on Stephen Bumfrey's breakfast show.

He said his experience on air has been invaluable in helping him step up the ladder.

"I wouldn't be doing this now unless I'd done my Livewire show," said Greg. "It's been really difficult to fit it all in, but it's been fantastic as well."

Not for my taste at all, seems a bit like a Capital radio DJ (sorry London reference)-cheesy, and a bit too slick. He's the radio equivalent of beige or magnolia in my opinion.................

Well, covering Coxy's slot, he couldn't go wrong; it's not as though he could be worse than her.

Then it stands to reason that she is crap. You seem to have appalling taste in most things that you mention on here (in my opinion).

Me too! I love all the incidents she gets herself into every week. She makes me look sane.

I think she is off because a chandalier fell on her head? I hope she's ok.

A chandelier fell on Sara Cox's head? Well I never did before, but now yes, I can definitely see ho you might see a resemblance between you and her there, thats exactly the kind of thing I can imagine you saying!

I'm sure I heard that? I think that's right anyway!! Seriously tho', I DO hope she's ok. I can't think how she could have managed it, I must say.

In that context, even Moyles couldn't (allegedly) cover her slot. Sausages and streets come to mind.
