Yet again, Chris is being branded homophobic by some of the press and online sites after Kevin Brennan, the new Minister for Children said that change needs to happen for example "the casual use of homophobic language by mainstream radio DJs". He didn't mention Chris but this is wildly believed by the press to be a nod at him.

We all know what Ministers and journalists who openly admit to not listen to the show think on the matter so I thought it'd be interesting to see what fans of the show think.

So here's a poll. Does Chris use homophobic language on the show?

Simple yes / no.

I can't think of any instances of homophobic language. The only thing, that I can think of, that comes close was that 'gay' ringtone fiasco, which was blown amazingly out of proportions.

Figured I should get involved in this thread since I seem to be the resident gayer.

Having listened to Chris for aaaaages, I am yet to hear anything that I could class as homophobic. Those in the papers have no real proof and I am pretty sure that the majority of gay folks wouldn't mind whatever he has said.

Thing is, I'm sure that plenty gay folk don't listen to him because they think he is homophobic which is a shame. The problem is that those that don't care rarely step forward and say anything, its always the one or two voices which are complaining that are heard.

Aled - tell Chris to ignore whatever is being said. And while you are talking to him, can you remind him that we actually do like him in here!

no.

I m getting very bored with the apparently growing group of people who think we all need to be wrapped in cotton wool in case someone says something which will hurt our poor delicate little feelings. Perhaps Chris is targeted in this kind of debate because he is demonstrably NOT a part of that "nanny culture", but he is obviously no bigot. Opinionated, sometimes rude, sometimes WRONG! - but not a bigot. I appreciate him.

I'm with Yuds. He's just a man with human opinions but he's not a homophobe or a racist or anything else that would turn him into a bigot. I too appreciate him and feel that he's an easy target for the idiots of this world who can't distinguish between a homophobe and someone having a laugh. Has he had an influx of hate mail from gay people? (are we still allowed to call people gay or is that not PC anymore? It's so hard to keep track.

I suspect it's one of the Dave Stalkers we've had on lately. Chris or Console will be able to see won't they?

In all the time I've been listening to Chris, I've yet to hear him demonstrate any homophobic qualities. On the contrary, if you look at the gay celebrities he's friendly with - Paul O'Grady, Dale Winton etc and then add to that the fact that he has an openly gay producer on his show who he seems to get on with quite well. It's just another example of people looking for prejudice where none exists.

Football will make a very public stance of standing up to racism but not homophobia. David James wrote a column on it recently which was interesting. Its about time they focused on areas like this rather than trying to score cheap points from a dj.

No. Any singular words he's used in the past should be judged within in the full context of the conversation, something that many people who whinge about certain words fail to do, to their shame.

I'll assume you mean Aled by that one - he has said before that he wouldnt work with Chris if he was homophobic. That should answer your question.
