alrighty, I've been resisting getting drawn into this cos it's not my argument and I don't wanna get banned. But as it's being discussed in a thread and not via PMs then I feel I can make a comment: that "meaningless fluff" is what some of our mamas taught us to know as politeness.

Yes, the 'meaningless fluff' is politeness, but it doesn't add information, it's simply a courtesy which I sometimes cannot be bothered to add. Also, you wouldn't get banned simply for arguing with me, if anything I would encourage the action.

Fair enough console. I hate arguments both in real life and on message boards, so I have no desire to get into one with you or anyone else here. It does seem that this not bothering with politeness is what's getting other people (well, boboff in this case) irritated with you, but at least you're honest enough to admit that you can't be bothered with it.

Sometimes, you just have to get straight to the point and stuff the bloody politeness !!

Why? Getting to the point will have more impact on the listener if it is achieved with manners.

Personally, too much sugar sometimes can be a little wearing on the nerves! I know I can often just say what needs to be said, and it's done... it's over ! It often depends who it's coming from as well! Some people you can just take stuff from, yuds., and others... you can't!!

I agree, but thats not what's happened here. Its not like Console tried politeness and that didn't work so he had to get more forceful. He was just mannerless because he couldn't be bothered to be otherwise, which is lazy and anti-social. I am surprised, he's usually very pleasant, for a geek!

I don't find him mannerless at all. He just says what needs to be said. I think his heart's in the right place (at least this is my impression anyhow), so it's all good.

I was neither lazy or anti-social, I was actually extremely busy that day, and thought that a link to the appropriate FAQ section would suffice, which, I might add, it was. It wasn't so much a lack of manners as it was a lack of time. The problems that arose would not have been changed by me adding superfluous text like "The link below should give you the information you need to get an image in you signature".

It was bits like this which led me to my previous comments. But it wasn't a personal criticism, everyone's different, I know you are a busy person and you look after this site eminently well, so I am fine about you occasionally being a little abrasive with it. And you have red hair, which gives you an advantage in all things as far as I am concerned.
