Yes. Yes, I would.

Obviously, you would need to pat her bottom affectionately at the same time, Balls.

Reminds me of that Only Fools where Del smacks a posh bird antiques dealer (Miranda) on the arse and says "fancy a curry?" She accepts but only because she's after an expensive painting they've got. Rodders trys it and gets slapped!

I wouldn't mind! :D

actually I think when someone else uses 'lady' there's a good chance it is in a perjorative sense, but I quite like it when referring to myself. It's an aspiration - even on High Heels Friday, I don't really think I am one.

I'm polish and I work in costumer service for over 3 years now. Most of the people are really nice towards me, but my first rasist abuse i've got was from a guest from Pakistan:
"you f****ng Polish t**t go back to your poor country and stuff. And I felt so bad.

**goes deep inside his brain and thinks**

Poland is not very international and my country struggles with accepting that people are black, or gay which is embarrising. Couple of weeks ago polish minister of education said that all the teachers that are gay should be fired... Damn thats strange!

So why is it so that people can be so crule and fooking rude?!

We have a fairly large Polish community around here, they're all legal, they all work hard and pay tax, and the ones I have met properly seem really nice, keen to speak English and not create Polish ghettoes (and like it or lump it, many immigrant populations do choose exactly that and then complain about being marginalised). But they do take some abuse from the Essex Redneck population. It is cruel, and I hate it.

I've read your post several times and wanted to reply each time but the basic answer is that I don't know why people can be like that.

Don't listen to him. Don't let one d*ck make you feel like that when you have been three years in the job and enjoying it.

With regards to Poland, I don't know much about the politics of your country so I aint really qualified to answer that either. The world is in a new and scary place at the moment where developments in certain parts of the world are maybe affecting other parts of the world and bringing new ideas to that part of the world which its not ready for. Its not that surprising that there are aspects, ideas and values which various places are scared of accepting.

I hope someone answers you better than I do so I can agree with them.

Chin up sonny :D

To be racially abused is not something I've had the misfortune of going through and I'm not sure I can or want to imagine what it's like. For someone who (you would imagine) has probably gone through that abuse himself to then inflict the same thing on someone else is completely mad, to my mind.

I think a lot depends how you've been brought up and unfortunately it is true that until not too long ago racism was an accepted part of our society. I remember a friend of mine telling me about a very popular black American musician, I can't remember who it was, but I think it was in the 70s, who would pack our theatres, but he wasn't allowed in the normal performers entrance, he had to use a special door for black people.

That this was an accepted part of society not very long ago, means that some people in today's society have been brought up with such views and sometimes it can be difficult to shake the opinions that you were brought up to believe. That doesn't make it right and I'm not excusing it, especially as some people have changed their views, but I think that plays a major part in why some people today are still racist. Hopefully, with time, people will graually lose these bigotted views, but at the moment, on the whole, I still think society is quite racist.

Societies that have been oppressed, whether racially, religiously or politically, do seem to have more of a tendancy to go on and discriminate themselves. In countries, possibly including Poland, that have been subject to dictatorships, the nature of those regimes block any sort of social progress. After a possible revolution/ break-down of regime etc, it takes those countries several generations to move forward to what we in liberal democratic countries would view as acceptable behaviour. There are exceptions to this rule. However, the majority of people who take prejudism to extreme in this country are from some sort of disadvantaged community.

That syndrome filters down to individual behaviour patterns too. How many bullies have a background of being bullied? Most of them. Individuals ape the behaviour of those they automatically learn from - parents mostly, peers next. Even if that behaviour is negatively directed at them, they will still "learn" it and very often repeat it, because its the only example they have.

I can understand (although not condone) one group of people disliking or even hating another group,

But I don't really understand why that would be the case based on their skin colour, their sex, their sexuality, or even their bloody hair colour!

Some years ago I lived near a Indian restaurant, run by a small family, and they were all very nice people; The owner had a very dry sense of humour: I was stood outside talking to him when some ignoramous walked past and muttered loudly "Paki!" I felt quite uncomfortable for him, but he just said quietly "Maybe his mother should get him an atlas for his birthday!" confused I asked why? he smiled and pointed to the word INDIAN (restaurant).

I don't think the the word 'paki' is offensive to just Pakistanis. I'd say it's generally accepted it's an offensive term toward any South Asians.

Therefore the 'comeback' isn't much of a comeback.

Apparently 'paki' means pure and 'Pakistan' literally means land of the pure (or something). I read an article about an Asian guy who had deisgned a range of clothing called 'PAK1' or something like that, he was trying to claim the word back.

Understood, although I guess it was the first thing that came into his head.

And I would very much doubt that the ignoramous had thought any more about the word than that it might cause offense.
