definitely believable tho. I work with another lad from Preston and the other day we were discussing the differences in accents between Preston and Chorley, which is only a few miles down the road - eg they pronounce bus as 'buz' and we don't. Also just yesterday a customer told a colleague of mine that she sounded just like Sara Cox - this puzzled us as Sara is from Bolton whilst my colleague is from Rochdale, and to our ears they are very different accents.

That is true, what sounds different to you will probably sound the same to me; I would probably agree with the customer. We have an office in Bolton, I always laugh talking to them cos they all sound like Sara Cox.

I do think some regional accents are more aurally pleasing than others, but its quite difficult to be empirical about something which is so subjective. However - is there anyone who actually finds a strong Midlands accent attractive? And is there anyone who doesn't find a Dublin accent attractive?

Back at Ticketmaster I used to sell for the following group of theatres: the Bristol Hippodrome; Birmingham Alexandra; Liverpool Empire, and Edinburgh Playhouse. Edinburgh was the only accent out of all those I didn't hate, and even then sometimes people from Glasgow would call to book and I found their accents completely impenetrable. The way they pronounce 'J' to rhyme with 'high' - what's up with that?

I've always thought west country accents are really nice. Irish - not so much. I've never been able to see what the fuss is all about there.

I love Irish accents. Oddly, I have no problem with Scouse accents, though I know a lot of people do.

there can be that much regional differences from dialects. what's amazing, is that these regional differences have gone on for a millennium, and can be traced back to the four different old english dialects. it's amazing stuff.
