Ooooh, prophecy come true........

I never got food cravings when I was pregnant. Just the overwhelming urge to sniff Dettol. I still do it, sometimes........

Well yes, so can I, but the point about a craving is that its uncontrollable, you don't just look down a list a say "ooh, think I'll have that one" - you're stuck with what you get. And however revolting it is, getting it will satisfy the craving - so the craver will always find it wonderful, because like it or lump it, at that particular moment, thats what they needed. At least I was lucky in that my craving was easy to satisfy, must be difficult if you find yourself desperate for Yak butter tea or something.

I had a thing for squid when i was pregnant, to the extent of driving to the 24 hour asda at 4 in the morning. I also developed a real diesel fetish, particularly if it was red, i used to cover my hand and clothes with it and everything. Probably not a safe substance if you're pregnant but never mind.

I only got seven weeks into a pregnancy, but I did find certain smells started to knock me really sick - toast was one, which was a problem as I work in an office with a toaster and people make it at all times of the day, and my own deoderant was another. Weird.

Yeah, i found at the beginning of pregnancy, you get more repulsed by things than attracted to them. I couldn't be in the same room as someone who was frying food. I hated tea, coffee and alchohol also. The only time in my life that thats been the case.

Its the same mechanism that causes "morning" sickness. Its the sudden increase in hormones causing initial violent reactions in the body - once things settle, the aversions and sickness usually go away - not always though. I went right off tea in my first pregnancy, and in my last one, the smell of my new car made me throw up. Nice.

it's funny because i've been getting what i call "chemo cravings"- i need samosas all the time. for some reason they always taste good, even when i'm at my most nauseous.
i've also been put off normal things like fruit and plain water, which is problematic.

I remember reading that when Lance Armstrong was in the trough of his chemo all he could eat and keep down was apple fritters.

That's so unfair! you should be able to eat what you want when you're ill!
