This may have been done before, but I don't care. I just thought of this what with the New York chat going on next door.

So the deal is, name your five most favourite places you've visited in the world, they don't necessarily have to be in order. Mine, in order are thus.

1) Petra in Jordan - absolutely breathtaking.
2) The Pyramids/ Cairo - the pyramids are huge and Cairo museum is spectacular, bring your own bog roll though.
3) Goa, although touristy it's a great place to go.
4) Tunisia - purely for star wars fans, you get to have tea in Luke Skywalker's house, how cool is that.
5) Borneo (Malaysia) - The orang-utans are incredible, and the beaches are amazing.

Hmmmm, actually not sure how true that list is, it's harder than I thought.

1. Paris (lived there as a teenage girl) - couldn't believe how tall the Eiffel Tower actually was.
Felt a total connection with Paris.
2. Iceland : loved the naturally heated water there, tho' it stinks due to high sulphur content.
3. Switzerland (was there aged about 14) - it was so clean and beautiful.

Only have the 3.

I've never been abroad. Well, except for a trip to Germany when I was 13 with my school, but that doesn't really count. I don't have a passport. I'll get around to it one day.

I have not been to that many places but so far my fav's are:

1) Italy. I went to the famous art gallery there in Florence, (don't remember the name)saw the leaning tower of Pisa and some skeleton of a Saint in a church which smelt abit funky, also went to Pompeii.

2) Spain. Stopped in a villa in El Rosario we were near a few famous people. Went to Puerto Banus for a night out and it was 7 euros for half a lager but i got chatting to two gay guys who bought me a few, luckily.

These are the only two places i have actually been on holiday for a week to. The rest are on cruises which doesn't actually give places chance to shine.

I've just tried to count up, I've been to at least 32 countries - and five of the seven continents.
My passport is pretty well-used.

Hmm you just pip me there sire, 29 for me, and two of those don't exist anymore.......one of them is now war-torn.

My pass-port's full up too but that's mainly because when we stayed in Israel everytime we left the hotel we had to have them stamped, that four days alone filled up about 6 pages.

Tunisia (like bag for balls, not for the same reason though) - purely the bit in the Sahara, where you ride camels and stuff - very interesting, didn't like the rest of it though; hated the markets where they try and coax you into buying stuff ("come 'ave a butchers!")

London - I love London, despite what others may think, it's vibrant, interesting, historical. I wouldn't want to live there, in fact we're a fairly ideal distance away - far enough away from every day life, but close enough for a day trip.

Chichen Itza - the Mayan ruins, Mexico.

The Canadian Rockies - to use Bag for balls' phrase, absolutely breathtaking. I could name my top 5 being different places all through here; Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, the Athabasca Glacier, etc... but I'll keep it in one spot. I've been to Canada twice, I'm lucky enough to have family there. I plan to go back in the not too distant future.

This is harder than it looks, I only got four.

Mine are in no particular order:

1) The Pyramids
2) There was an island of some sort when me and my gf went Snorkelling in the Red Sea which was fantastic!
3) Disneyland in Florida - first time abroad when i was 12 and loved every minute of that place
4) The Acropolis
5) Cairo Museum - Worth the 8 hour journey from Hurghada just to see Tutankmun treasure.

This is tricky.
1: Portugal anywhere - particularly Lisbon
2: The German Alpes area, nearish to Munich
3: Moscow, but that was years ago, has probably changed a bit now
4: Zimbabwe, but similar point to 3.
5: Clermont Ferrand and anywhere near the Massif central in France.

I misread that first one first time as Peter in Jordan, which is hardly something I would call breathtaking.

Actually you didn't mis-read it, I mis-typed it. Peter in Jordan is amazing.

Agreed about Somerset. Forest of Dean around Symonds Yat is really gorgeous also. And your native Kent isn't too bad either i reckon. The rural areas like Lyminge forest are nice and even the cities like Canterbury and Folkstone are ok.

1. The best place in the world to be (if you're me) is on top of the rocks on Sharp Tor on Dartmoor at sunset in early summer. Similar scenario on Chinkwell or Honeybags Tor would run it a very close second.
2. Rome
3. New York
4. London
5. The Dorset coast.

And yes, it is the Quantocks. There are a couple of villages there I remember - East Quantockshead and West Quantockshead!

Places that have disappointed - Casablanca, Athens (although the Acropolis was amazing), Cairo (although I would probably revise this opinion if I had got to the museum), Barcelona (whats all the fuss about?!), Paris (again, I think I would revise this opinion if I had gone there with enough money to enjoy it properly!).

I'd love to go in that glass thing over Grand Canyon, bet that would be pretty amazing. I'd also love to do a safari in Africa at some point.

I hate to disagree, but I can't see how it would be amazing, it's just a big load of rock faces. Big Mamma ballbag's been and she said it was crap, and just too big to appreciate what it was, especially when you consider the effort it takes to get there.

I think it's just because it's pretty much one of the only things that America has to crow about, so they crow it to the hills and hence it becomes a place where people feel that they "have to go to", just to say "I've been there". Big Mamma Ballbag gave me the impression that alot of people there weren't as impressed as they felt they should have been.

I think Venice was a disappointment. It was overpriced and the year i went there, they had a problem with algae and the whole place smelt strongly of rotten celery. Lovely.

Venice is a strange place, it's very overpriced, but there are "normally" priced shops for the locals, and they're usually hidden from view, behind big plastic curtains etc etc to make them look like ware-houses or something. Anyway if you can find them then it's not too bad.

I went to Solvakia about 8 years ago (It was the last family holiday we went on before my parents split) and I remember the little town we went to look like something out of Liliput Lane. It was all situauted behind huge castle walls. The coach parked outside the town and you had to walk over a Drawbridge over a dried up Moat. Running around down in what was the moat were big brown bears, about 7 of them, some with Cubs. I remember it being awesome. The whole town looked really medeival, old stone and wood houses, each with a horse stable. Me and dad sat outside a bar by a fountain drink pints of Budvar at 17p a pint.

Fantastic.
