The thing that struck me about New York - well, Manhatten anyway - was how strongly it reminded me of London! It is very different, but eerily reminiscent. And I want a brownstone off Columbus Avenue please.

Nothing naughty, its a townhouse made out of brown.....stone. They are kind of a feature of New York. I never had Krispy Kremes in NY, I didn't discover those until my trip to Pittsburgh a couple of years later. New York is a lot nicer than Pittsburgh - although Pittsburgh was very nice too, lots of history and stuff - we discovered that one of Mr Yudster's ancestors was a famous figure in the history of the place - a bit of a Jebediah Springfield!

I have absolutely no desire to visit New York. I think it's because (as you said) I'll get there an just think I'm in London, and I HATE London with a passion. I just imagine New York to be filled with rude locals and lots of tourists. I think if I did ever go to America I'd probably chose somewhere like San Fransisco to visit, but I don't think I will ever go to the states really, there's not much to see in my opinion.

I'd like to see New York, preferably @ Xmas, and go skating in Cent. Park. Other than that, I wouldn't really choose the USA as a preferred destination.

Mr Yudster has made some very enjoyable visits to Chicago, and I would like a look at that, it sounds good. I would love to go back to New York. My brother is currently working in upstate New York and he is very enthusiastic, says its lovely - wish I could remember exactly where he is though. His girlfriend is from Akron, Ohio - I'm still waiting to feel the urge to visit there! On the whole though, I don't want to sit in an aeroplane for that long - I'd have to have a damn good reason.

I did that! I went in mid-December 1999, left the kids at home, did all my Christmas shopping, did the skating in Central Park (which is a brilliant place) - I was staying with a friend, so I had a built in city guide as well. It was the best break ever.

You see, in terms of things to see and places to go in the world, New York is way way down my list, (as is America really) which is why I'll probably never go there. There are too many other things to see and do in the world without visiting a country with no real history past the last 200 years. Discuss.

Whats to discuss? If it doesn't interest you, don't go there! Go to Rome instead, lots of history there, and another place I absolutely love.

I'd like to see more historical / cultural places too, with the exception of ITALY, which I DETEST. New York still looks fascinating tho': very vibrant and lively ! The rest of America tho'....? dunno.

I don't know much more of Italy than Rome - which I love - and Milan, which I thought was absolutely horrible. I would like to go to Naples though, also Florence.

I went to Florence, which was very dirty and spooked me as well. Found Italy v. negative. Went to PISA too: at Xmas they have umbrella lights hanging along the streets, rather than other styles of Xmas mlights, because of the amount of rain PISA gets.

One part of the USA I would be fascinated to visit would be Alaska. But that could just be because I watched too much Northern Exposure.

I would quite fancy visiting New York. I've been to America for a milkshake before; I crossed the border from Vancouver. If I went for a holiday I'd have to catch a basketball and an ice hockey match. Not interested in baseball though.

I used to love that show too. The weather looked so lovely - always snowing and sunny. I also quite fancied John Corbett back then, before he was in SATC.

On the radio here the choices are Howard Stern, or any number of other unfunny frat-boy "shock jocks." Personally I don't think Howard Stern is that funny. Maybe once a month her has something funny go on. Basically he just sits around with his friends and talks about really boring nothingness and sometimes sex. For some reason half of America finds this entertaining, but the truth is, there is nothing creative or smart about it. Chris... and all the radio one dj's seem to take great pride in their work and put a lot of effort into coming up with creative jingles, games, contests, and banter. It makes the US radio look really sad. Plus obviously, we have commercial every 3 seconds, so even if the newsbeat is repetitive, nothing is as bad as US commercials. I'm sure if you listen to xfm or something you know how tiresome commercials can be.

I totally agree everything we have is rubbish - Howard Stern is just annoying and all the others have a ton of commericals. I doubt they could even come up with enough material to fill the time that Chris has to without commericals.

Another great place at Christmas is Washington D.C. The crowds aren't so bad and everything looks great!
