I find it a bit odd that someone in Alabama is driving along listening to the same show as I am. I know that we have been told about it many times, but I just kinda thought that although it was possible, not that many folk used it.

Why do you listen to the show? What bits do you like and what bits do you not understand? I wonder if the team / station tries to remember that there is a listener base outside the UK and we just don't notice?

Well I listen during the 8 - 9 am hour - I like the news first (even though they repeat the same thing over and over). Last year I noticed a little push to identify with the other listeners that were out of country with some explanation of terms here and there but that seems to have stopped. If I had to guess how many people actually listen the "breakfast show" in the states it would be less than 1000. The reason I started listening was because I like the music. All of our top 40 stations play the same thing over and over and really never discover any new music. With Radio 1 I get a much better variety of music and a good chunk of the time I hear stuff on Radio 1 way before I hear it in the states.

As for Chris he just makes me laugh for some reason. I have to give some credit to the rest of the crew as well. I'm a big fan of Rock DJ's Monday Night Quiz (I'm getting better at it) and the podcast (Download the podcast NOW!). I'm also a big fan of Chris' interview style.

If you need any help with translations, just ask - but be careful who you believe. Actually Kendra would be your best bet, she sometimes seems more English than the English, and she won't lie to you either. Its nice to meet you anyway.

Awesome thanks for the warm welcome. I actually have a few friends that are brit-nuts and I normally just ask them or google it. It will nice to have a new resource to turn to. Kendra sounds pretty cool - I just took a peek at her website.

Yea, that bugs me as well, but its the way it is. Plus its never too long so thats always good.

Good lad - I was feeling a bit outnumbered - there seems to be a few who don't approve of it.

The Dude wrote:Now we'll have to teach you words like 'cushty', 'dodgy' and 'lovely jubbly'. :)

Surely Kooshty is spelt like that?

I'm sure I'm about to get a wikipedia link disagreeing with me mind you.

I think you can get a cream for that now...

Hey all!

I listen in on Sirius in New York.

I have been listening to Jo Whiley and Zane on the web for the past two years, but once I got Sirius Sattelite radio I started listening to Chris too. I have to agree that his morning show is far superior to anything we have in the states.

Now I do have 1 question... I cannot figure out Dominic's theme song for the life of me. Can someone please tell me what they are singing before "...one more show, the fabulous Dominic Byrne." It's been driving me nuts trying to figure that out. Haha

There not anything similar?

Thank you! I thought it was something to the effect of "round a bout ramble, one more shovel, the fabulous Dominic Birne!" ha ha, and I don't think its the accent that threw me off, I was just lost.

On the radio here the choices are Howard Stern, or any number of other unfunny frat-boy "shock jocks." Personally I don't think Howard Stern is that funny. Maybe once a month her has something funny go on. Basically he just sits around with his friends and talks about really boring nothingness and sometimes sex. For some reason half of America finds this entertaining, but the truth is, there is nothing creative or smart about it. Chris... and all the radio one dj's seem to take great pride in their work and put a lot of effort into coming up with creative jingles, games, contests, and banter. It makes the US radio look really sad. Plus obviously, we have commercial every 3 seconds, so even if the newsbeat is repetitive, nothing is as bad as US commercials. I'm sure if you listen to xfm or something you know how tiresome commercials can be.

Also, Chris and I share the smae birthday, so I feel a connection to him and I think I will be a loyal listener for a long time. I really enjoyed waking up to all his speacial birthday jingles on my own birthday.

after listening again...

Beterer? Is that an actual word in the UK? If someone used that here I would assume they were iliterate.

Im sure that will be the lyrics soon enough.

Is that not what Chris does every morning?

Granted, he makes nothingness very funny!

No, but that's part of the joke, since last time it was 'new and improved' and 'betterer' fits the beat.
