What a good question. Here's what I think.

He just seems really uncomfortable and that makes the audience feel uncomfortable. He's also quite slow moving about the floor and, as he's already demonstrated himself, he doesn't know what to do with his hands, which just adds to the uncomfortable feel. Plus, for this show, he's up against the memory of Russell Brand who could think faster on his feet than anyone else I've seen on TV. Compare Chris's rundown of the contestants and think what Russell could've done.

Great on the radio, though.

And Russell's pish on the radio, so I guess it all balances itself out.

Yeah I know he was rubbish on that Friday Night Project too.

haha

nice come back

I agree with you though, he has never been brilliant on the telly. He always comes across as acting up for the camera which is a shame.

He is much better than he used to be and I hope he gets it right. After what he has done on the radio, I think it would be the right way for him to go.

Is that not next week though?

Oh yeah silly me lol, I should learn to be patient. :P

Yeah I'll say one thing for him tonight, hes looking more comfy, he dont half bomb around that audience though. The opening link was good. I miss Russels quirky, detailed and obscene observations.

its prob not good to try and compare him to russel brand

they are very different

You thought he looked more comfy, SOR? I still thought he was a bit awkward and only seemed really in his element when talking to Kay Senior and Aled.

I'm comparing him with Brand which is, as you say FL, rather unfair but Russell controlled that show from start to finish. I can't see it working with the likes of Chris and (Jesus) Peaches Geldof presenting.

Still, live in hope ...

Yeah Peaches, I love the way the housemates conflict each other, the most vicious mix I've seen yet. Thats what I love about it, Davina is essentially a lagered-up Attenborough on a human wildlife show. Chris is just Chris in that particular setting. I reckon he'll be thinking now "Ahh piece of piss this BBBM thing" He'll know what to do to improve.

I think Foots is right with the comparisons of Brand, but I'm sure there'll be..Live with... comparisons though which was much more relaxed he was sat down, whereas this he really gets to whoop it up. The relaxed thing only works for his radio show. This is new its different I'm liking it so far.

Jesus is having a shot as well?

Its fair enough to compare him with russel with regards to BBBM but its not fair to compare his presenting style in general.

He should just chill a bit and relax. He needs to remember that its a completly different style to his radio show.

He may improve over the next few days as well.

Russell is brilliant on the radio IMO. Chris was below par, It's true but he showed potential. If he had time to get to grasp the format he would be a potentially brillant presenter on this show, of course he's only doing it for 2 more days. The problem is the format was invented for Brand to just arse about really and there was never any substancial BB discussion - now he's gone they don't quite know what to do. They should have increased the discussion element, but they haven't really - it still moves too fast, but with none of the glue that Brand held it together with. Of course this could be because there is nothing to discuss just yet, but I think they should have just revamped the show and renamed it to make it an actual discussion show - but then that's what BBLB is...! Don't get me started on the crap characters of "The stair" and Osama...

Your stair and Osama points are valid and I wont be surprised when Chris slags them off!

I also agree that Russel is good on the radio, the little I heard of his Radio 2 show kept me listening. There aint many stations that can say that on a Sat evening.

He is fantastic on the radio but truly awful when he tries to present on the tele.

Kudos to his agent -- he keeps getting the gigs despite the form.

And maybe I was harsh concerning Russ on t'Radio. I've only heard him once and it made my head hurt. Perhaps I caught him on a bad night.

He just gets too nervous on the TV, doesn't know where to look, always fidgeting with his hands. I didn't even bother watching because it makes me feel sorry for the big man, he really should give up trying to make it on TV and stick to what he's good at.

Also, Russel Brand is excellent on the radio.

Oh, and for a bunch of people who hate big brother so much do we really need so many threads on the subject?

he's also pish on TV in everything I've seen him in. He seems to be some kind of Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow wannabe.. but without the talent.

I guess you either love him or hate him, but you can't say he's without talent. He's immensly talented, just not perhaps the talent that floats your boat Mr Ed.

I just can't see the talent... if he has got it, he certainly ain't as talented as Depp and many others, that was more my point.

Moyles isn't as talented as Depp either...so what? Or have you just gone purely on looks there...?

Comparing the respective talent of Johnny Depp and Russell Brand? How do you do that, they do totally different things? Or has Russell Brand become an actor while I wasn't looking, or Johnny Depp become a TV presenter and serial tart-shagger?

It's like someone just put a light off, I think, when he goes on the telly... probably being on radio makes more for a confidence thing: I mean, he's nicely hidden away. :-)

Give him time. It took Russel Brand a long time to break into television also, though i suppose he did have the excuse of rampant drug abuse...

I'm afraid so. He's in two upcoming films - the St Trinian's remake and something else being filmed in Hawaii. Whether he'll be any good remains to be seen...
