Dear Diary,
today while out at lunch-time, I was standing staring into space. All of a sudden I noticed lots of steam, and thought the ground was on fire, and thus, I myself would also go on fire. Then I realised it was steam due to pavements drying after rain. I felt a bit silly.

I remember that phenomenon, of the steaming pavements, from when I was a child, but I haven't seen it for years and years. Strange, because it can't be because the temperature was higher then, because it wasn't, quite the opposite - I have always wondered if it is to do with the pavements being made from different materials. And yes, this is a question which has troubled me often, and for a long time!

Been a very long week! Had conference in Manchester on Tuesday worked really hard all day, met Al Murray Pub Landlord and Rory Bremner, Nigel Slate, Louise Rennison etc etc etc then had free bar until 3am so got a little drunk. Didn't go to bed until 5.35! Got back to work on Weds afternoon then spent all of yesterday trawling round Publishers in London trying to get some good signings for the next few months. Think I may have some fun events coming up!

Don't do geography do something more vocational at uni. I did a pure subject and really regret it now, no use to me at all.
