Yes, you're talking about the mental feed-back loop, which involves all the experiences and sensory information going round in a continuous loop, which allows us to react differently to different situations. Without this we wouldn't be able to understand and deal with new situations, and would quickly die out as a species. What makes you think there is some higher purpose to this learning other than the immediate survival or our (or any other) species? Why does there need to be anything higher? Is the 'miracle' of life not enough?
