I don't mind tennis, I like watching th eother Grand Slam events (and I don't like Henman or Murray either) - its just Wimbledon, its the aura of expectation that surrounds it every year. I wish "we", the nation I mean, could handle this kind of thing with a bit more cool....!

Rafael Nadal is such a fantastic player to watch (and Roger Federer, obviously).

Federer is a robot, worse than Sampras. Nadal is ok, at least he's pretty. But men's tennis is suffering from a lack of personalities in the game. I actually find the women's circuit more entertaining these days, and I never thought that would happen.

Federer less so than Nadal, for the reason you said; but I really enjoy watching Nadal play. I still think the men play a better spectator's game than the women.

Federer is not a robot at all. theres genius in some of his play and he tends to show real emotion on court. I think there is a lack of characters generally in sport but I also thing its due to the fact that anything slightly controversial gets blown up into something huge.

Poor old Federer then . I like a bit of Formula 1 and Superbikes myself. I know people think F1 is tedious, but dammit, i disagree. There's also a genuine British contender this year, for once.

I was more referring to him coming second in the championship by 2 points having been up there all season...... I'd count that as him being a championship contender..... so yes.

But Ferrari would probably have taken him out in some grim way if it looked as though he would actually have beaten Schumacher to the title. Anyway, he's not British he's Irish.

Ok, so he's from Northern Ireland, so not British, but he is from the UK. When the UK represents itself in sport it is generally under the title "British", or "GBR".

You wouldn't refer to him as a UKish driver would you?

I stopped watching F1 when the races started to be won on who does the best pit stop rather than who does the best driving. Quite like the bikes though.

I was a massive Hill fan before he retired, but no he wasn't brilliant. He was a very good driver when leading the field, but because he didn't start in karts like most others, he couldn't really cut it in the middle of the pack. I remember seeing Lewis Hamilton in Super One karting and being impressed even then. Someone (not me) even predicted he'd be a future World Champion and I've no doubt he'll be proved right.

Johnny Herbert, while never being a contender, was always a great character - and Alesi was fantastic to watch, but the real golden days of F1 were the Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet days. Mansell is a drama queen though.

irvine considers himself to be Irish. I concede on the Hakkinen fact though. Sorry about that. I agree with Topher about the Senna days and it has changed almost out of all recgnition since he died. However, Monaco is still always a spectacle. Should be an interesting race. Hamilton may well have problems. We shall see.

I think Raikkonen will be the winner this year. He'll have a podium finish this weekend i reckon and he'll build on that!

Senna was as much of a dick as Schumacher but he died so gets more sympathy.

But his rivalry with Prost was such an exciting time for the sport, especially when they were teammates at McLaren. He was immensely talented, like Schumacher; I think you need a certain amount of arrogance to be that good at anything.

I'm never sure about that. I don't see how arrogance is a requirement of success. I think its more likely to be a result of it. Very talented people stand out and are noticed from moment one usually, so they'll get a lot of attention. I think thats what causes the appearance (reality?) of arrogance.

I didn't like Schumacher, seemed to throw his toys out of his pram quite a lot when things didn't go his way. Never really accepted it when somebody beat him
