I meet people at work all the time, but i work in theatre so all the men are gay. (I'm in a room with five male colleagues right now, all gay.) And I don't go to school. I went to university to do a Masters a few years ago, but that was women's studies - they don't really let men on that course.

I meet people thru my social scene too - but I think the net is just as good a way, it's just a bit different.

You know what the people at school could grow up to be a mass murderer or rapist, a person you knew really well at work could kidnap a child and get arrested. Not just them but your best friend or your family could? Really what is your arguement?

On the other hand, anything goes wrong with the person at school/work whatever, it's like taking a dump on your own doorstep, and all of a sudden you're the talk of the place.

plus N.Red is right, your other point has been covered at least twice.

Oh boy..... how WRONG can one guy be.

Think about this... Hannibal Lecter, highly intelligent, NOT A CHAV, turned out to be a killer and indeed a cannibal. OK you're going to say he's also a fictional character, but he was based VERY closely on a REAL Murderer.

Mental age or real age? I wager there'd be a sizable gap.

He only joined "this time" yesterday, he's been about and irritating before, a number of times I think. He pops up, annoys everyone with his little side-kick, and then is banned after a couple of days. I think the Lord Protector should implement a life-time ban.

It was in an interview with the author of all those books, Thomas Harris, so I think that's pretty reliable. He did his research.

Good god people - a whole day discussing meeting folk off the internet and seven pages later, there is not one mention of a goat.

PS

Viv, you made a good argument until:

I'd say Buffalo Bill is based on a real character as well... He seems quite close to Ed Gein. As for Hannibal, I doubt there's any one person who he was based on, he's too complicated a character, it's likely a few people. However, there are plenty of examples of real murderers and psychos that aren't 'chavs' - John Haigh for one, or, more recently, Harold Shipman.

Also, I've had previous experience of meeting via the internet, which was referenced recently by someone. Anyone who would like to is free to search for where I posted it, I can't be arsed. Having said that (if anyone does find it) I'd tend to agree with Nicola's arguments, that as long as you take all precautions and know what the risks are there's nothing wrong with it.
