I have a fear of edges. Often ones that are really high up, although not exclusively. I don't mind heights as such, but unprotected edges make me dizzy. I don't have to be near them either, I walked along the top of Curbar Edge and Froggat Edge in the Peak District last week, and I had to go ahead of everyone else because my kids wanted to jump around on the rocks near the edge. If I had been able to see them doing it I'd have gone hysterical, so me and the doggie walked faster. I do a lot of walking in high places, and climbing and such, its got nothing to do with heights, I can get just as nervous about a drop of a few feet as I can about one of a few hundred feet. Is there a name for the fear of edges?

Is there a name for the opposite of Phobias? where no fear is felt?
My brother has no fear of heights, and My Mum used to go mad at him sometimes, especially when he climbed to the top of a 300' radio tower just to scare his mates.
He ended up falling from it; luckily he was coming down and about 20' from the bottom.
The cuts on his face gave the game up to Mum, and his mate told her he'd climbed to the top, She nearly passed out.

I'm not a fan of escalators either but that's just grown from the problems I have with my balance since all my surgery. I just feel like I'm gonna fall when I step on them. Strangely I used to get on them without fear when I walked with crutches, it's just developed since then.

Yes, its called "stupid". Fear of genuine danger is instinctive, appropriate and right, people who either ignore it or pretend they dont' feel it are stupid.

People who don't feel any emotion are just plain COLD, I would say.... I hate cold, unfeeling people.

I just re-read my post, sorry, I'm not insinuating that anyone is stupid, I needed to choose a better word. Sorry.

Different folk find fear in different things.

I don't understand irrational fear - like fear of a common spider.

If there was likelyhood that it was a black widow spider, I would have more sympathy.
