Never mind.

it's for the best that Topher is kept up-to-date, like the rest of the country... If you can't get with the programme and be watching from the start, then you deserve people like me coming along filling you in !! :-)

I don't think you can say that he is dead (obviously you can say/write it, but it wouldn't be true), we certainly don't see him die, or see a dead body.

It is heavily implied though

Implied it may be, but is never stated, and the show is now finished (which is what I think the testcard girl was representing) so we'll never find out.

Apparently the pilot episode is very similar to the last. Hope they put it on the DVD.

But you can't say "it's not true", because it may well be. We'll never know either way.

The series 1 dvd has been out almost a year... :?

Yes, because it wouldn't make sense if it started with episode 2 would it?!

You say that, but I've know of series that have started on something other than the first episode (not on the DVD's mind, but on the first broadcasts).

I know - stuff like Extras where the plot isn't heavily linked from episode to episode in the first series, but not in drama such as this I wouldn't have thought where the plot is vital to the undertsanding, especially with the "time travel" etc

If you haven't even started watching it yet why are you even looking at this thread, people were obviously going to talk about the ending.

I thought people might be nice, like they have been in the 24 threads for the army of fans on here that started watching that late.

I had actually forgotten about Extra's; examples I can think of off the top of my head are Firefly and The Dresden Files, both first episodes introduced the characters and the premise of the show, and in Firefly's case gave a lot of information that was to be referenced later on in the series.

Although I do sympathise with you Topher, but there is a slight difference with 24 as there are so many episodes of that, mostly watched on dvd or a digital channel, where as Life on Mars has only a few and is on BBC One, not that that is an excuse. Also with the 24 threads, most people are actully watching the show, whereas you currently aren't watching Life On Mars, so GF05
is right in a sense that you shouldn't be looking at the thread. Maybe if you had lied and said you'd taped the last episode to watch later people may have been more sympathetic!

That said, I do feel for you, but at the end of the day the spoilers in this thread aren't even half the story so start watching and you should be pleasantly surprised.

Probably for the same reason that I am - things hardly ever stay on topic in here for more than five posts, so for folk to actually be discussing what it says in the thread title, its unusual.

It is common decency that spoilers are clearly marked, and when a forum member has specifically asked for certain things to be hidden, I fail to see how difficult it is to respect the request.

Yeah I'll watch anyway - I'm not all that bothered - I thought I would probably find out somehow anyway, even if it wasn't on here.

I cannot believe you are telling other people to wake up.

There's not going to be any more series because the mystery has been sold; carrying on would not be serving the original premise on the show and it wouldn't work as well, if at all. Stopping a series when it is doing well does not indicate that it is impossible to carry it on, just that it isn't always wise to do so. Look at Gervais' series, they stopped because the creators told what they wanted to tell, they could have done more, but they felt it wouldn't be as good, so they didn't.

I'm telling people to wake up, Topher, because I can hardly believe others can be so dense sometimes... follow me, Super Brain.
