I have a fear of Car Crashes, which is understandable, I think.
Mrs Zoot has a fear of Rupert the Bear, which isn't so understandable.

And that is totally true!

I have a fear of wasps. I think that's been discussed before.

Also, a fear of car crashes is understandable to a degree, but if it's to the extent that you won't get in a car (which phobias often are) then it's not so understandable.

As far as I am aware, I have no phobias; I am also scared of very little, the only one that comes to mind is asphyxiation (most likely due to certain childhood experiences), but it's not something that's really going to come up a lot (with any luck it won't ever come up).

Whaaaayyyyy!

I don't really understand phobias coz i don't think i have any. I try to respect them, but when my mates scream like a girl and then literally run out the house because they saw a spider - it gets very difficult to not rip the piss out them.

A fear of flying, I could maybe understand but I think a fear of car crashes is more logical.

I can understand a fear of flying (though I don't get it myself) because it's the knowledge that, although something very rarely goes wrong, if it does you've got next to no chance of survival.

It was really funny on the way back from Mexico last year, we took off in a storm - myself and Mrs Topher were loving it - but there were a few people who were quite scared. Everyone got settled and started walking around and we hit an air pocket - must have dropped a few thousand feet! We thought it made the journey interesting, but having said that, I wouldn't have liked to have been on the toilet at that point.

I have a phobia of machete weilding gangsta's, don't know why?!

Seriously though, I do have a Phobia of needles.
It has been recognised by my doctor, and he has added "prone to syncope" on my medical file.
That means I faint. One time I had a blood test, before he had added to my notes, and I said to the nurse "Just to warn you I will lose consciousness, for a second or two" she said "awww, don't worry that won't happen, I've done this hundreds of times" (never said she hadn't, she kind of missed my point there!) The needle went in, I awoke to 3 nurses and a doctor looking down at me, must have been out for a couple of minutes! boy didn't they look white. lol

Just claustrophobia. If I can't see a clear exit in any location - like say if I'm sat at the back of a table in the pub and people are sat all around so it would be a struggle to get out - I start to panic. Also I can't watch people underwater on TV - even if it's just a cartoon, my chest goes tight and I feel like I can't breathe. It's an instinctive reaction, so I think that's the true definition of a phobia. I'm not a fan of spiders and slugs, but I don't think they're bad enough to be called phobias.

I have a seriously bad fear of flying. Last year i had to have 3 valiums to Spain and back and even then i was shaking and crying like a puff. But i'm scared of dying and a plane crash or be involved in a terrorist attack is the worst death you could have so it totally freaks me out.

I think drowning would be worse.

Especially if you are concious when your lungs fill with water!

You don't have to be in the sea to drown. You could drown in a puddle.

I imaging that being eaten alive by ants (or other small creatures) would be worse. Infact I think most slow deaths would be worse than the relatively quick death of dying in a plane crash (or being shot in the head if the terrorist got jumpy or what-not).

Wow, what a cheery thread this has turned into.

You don't even have to go that far, you can [technically] drown with just a glass of water.

well i still have common sense, i swim in pools where people are around, the only thing about the sea is you dont know whats going to drag you under or what size waves are going to come.

I'm curious, would you be adverse to go either scuba or deep-sea diving?

I dont really know because even though i will be scared i still have courage to get on a plane and to go on a rollercoaster. I would probably watch a few people go down if they came up ok i would then go, but it would have to be with someone i trusted like with my mom or someone.

When I was writing that above, I was thinking about the graphic description of someone drowning in Dan Browns "Deception Point".

It doesnt sound pleasant.

oh i forgot, my sister used to be terrified of feathers!

If one fell out a pillow or something, she would be running off greeting!

Naturally, I used it to my advanatage as often as possible :D

Ha I bet you like the Tube Charlalottie - you can only travel to / from Covent Garden without getting on escalators. Big long ones as well.

My ex-housemate is scared of feet (and I mean really scared of feet), which was great once when I wanted the sofa - I could get my feet out and wave them in her face... unfortunately I have a conscience and gave her the sofa back as a sorry for almost stopping her breathing (because of her phobia you understand... not because my feet smell.)

I used to be sick at the sight of buttons as a child. I couldn't sit and eat if I could see any at all. I have grown out of it now but some still repulse me.

Have you seen the rest of them on that site? this list is brilliant. Actually most of the stuff on this page is hilarious.

On that list my favorite was -'Fear of Corners'...

Haha, you wouldn't stand a chance! You'd just walk around screaming all day!
