I forsee argument aplenty, but personally I think your friend has psychological problems. And no, I'm not saying everyone who has piercings is a nutter.

Surely loads of piercings must cause problems at the airport?

I find they really divide people. Very few people have only one tat or piercing (ears excepted); they have either none or loads. I have six piercings, all facial if you include ears, and eleven tattoos, and I still plan to get more tats.

I'm not immune, I've got three, but they're all in my ears. I always promised myself that if I managed to tone up my stomach after having Baby Yudster I'd consider having my bellybutton done, because I do think that can look really nice - well, I'm considering! Tattoos are an absolute no-no, and also any other piercing though. I think for me it is purely a case of specific decoration, people who really go for it have other reasons for it beyond the aesthetic.

Yeah, definitely. Most people who are heavily into tattooing have reasons and meanings behind most if not all of their tats. Some of mine are just pretty patterns, but most of them have significance to me. Like my scars, they tell my stories.

I have books! Far too many in fact. I just find having my story written on my body to be a powerful and attractive thing. Not everyone agrees, but they don't have to look.

tattoos tell stories to the illiterate.

w00t!

i know a guy who has SKUNK tattooed on his forehead. that, and his ignorance, makes him punk rock.
it's funny because i like tattoos and want to get a few more after this whole cancer thing, but most tattoos strike me as predictable and cliche. oh, cherries? ho hum. naked chicks? yawn. skulls? ha. roses? meh. faux tribal art? booo. the list goes on and on. yeah, i know that makes me a hater, but oh well. that's not to say there aren't cool tattoos out there, but it just seems that most people's fall into some category. they look different, but they all look the same. me? i'd say i just look sloppy and angry all the time.

Very much agreed. Tribal and Celtic tats make me cross cos nine times out of ten the wearer has no connection to the meaning behind the tats and probably doesn't even understand the meaning. Skull and rose type tats make me laugh - if I'd been allowed to get tats when I was 14 that's probably what I would have! Most of mine were designed specifically for me or are from art rather than tattoo flash. I do have a chinese symbol which is certainly a cliche - but it was my first one, so I still like it for that reason.

I do too - I was around Camden market this afternoon, you always get a nice mix of people round there, it's fascinating to people-watch - especially if the people look interesting.

I cant imagine anyone here tattooing their post code onto their arm!

"Aye mate, eh, just gonna stick G42 1EH on there for me please? Why? Oh, coz I can stick it into a tomtom if I ever get lost or anythin'."

Must be an american thing.

haha

british postcodes are more specific than american ones.

the 95608 zip code is only for the suburb i came from, which i'm super proud of. people know me as "kendrak straight outta carmichael".

I can't imagine getting a tat of my hometown postcode, but then Preston is a dump. I s'pose I might get one somehow relating to my adopted home of Manc. I do have one that incorporates my late grandparents' initials.

yeah, it's not the sort of place I'd go voluntarily, except that most of my family still live there.
