Sheffield is very impressive these days. Changed so much since I lived there.

I was going to mention Sheffield but I have only been once and it was all shut. Still looked nice though.

They've just done the station up with all fountains and stuff outside which looks really good. And the Peace Gardens in the centre has also been regenerated signficantly with a pleasant looking coffee bar and a new walkway to the Winter Gardens. The street down to the station along side Hallam university has also been improved with fountains down the side. I'm going to stop now as I'm starting to sound like I work for Sheffield City Council and don't want to do that because it's Labour governed and therefore should be against my principals to big it up.

Leicester's getting there too with the new extension to the Shires. It's looking pretty neat so far.

Actually, I've not been to Leicester for a while, and last time I was there it was dark, but it looked like it was coming along nicely. I think it should look OK when it's done though.

Ha - at the risk of starting another discussion, who do you lean towards then? I hope you're not a big fat tory (well you're half way there with the first bit.)

Also York is a very nice city.

I'm neither Tory nor Labour, but the Tories have to be a better alternative. Nobody else stands a chance.

Last time I went to Birmingham I was very impressed, it was lovely. But I only saw the bit right in the middle around the NEC. I go to Sheffield a lot, I have family there, and I find it really drab, dirty and depressing. Although the Botanical Gardens are lovely, and some of the parks are brilliant, if you can avoid the homicidal squirrels. The city centre is terrible though (if you can find it). I haven't been to Liverpool since 1985 - and it reminded me of Beirut, only the rubble hadn't been created by a war, it was just the way it was. I understand things have changed there greatly. Manchester is a good city. I love London though, I loved it when I lived there, and now I love to visit. I think its the way age and historical significance of the place sits so beautifully next to the contemporary landscape. That being said, the principles Gaspode outlines are absolutely correct, and those are some of the many reasons I was dead against having the Olympics in London in the first place.

this post started as a proclaimers post, I was slagged for getting Lyrics wrong and called a fool, I thought that was a bit harsh so had a dig at the scot (a joke but still a dig) then jock had a go back and its spiralled eversince
but twice Ive tried to diffuse the argument (read back if you dont believe me) and said Im bored (not of the original post but the petty bickering) then Horse kicks in with

Funny how people get 'bored' of things when they know they're losing or in the wrong...

In case you hadn't noticed, we all stopped arguing ages ago. For someone who wanted to end a bout of bickering, you are demonstrating very well exactly what you should do to start it up again. Well done to you.
