I haven't looked, because I don't - but "moyles-esque phone prank"? Mills is the one for the stupid phone pranks, surely?

Don't get me wrong - he is the best at what he does - there are plenty of prank phone call based shows out there.

The biggest thing I dislike is how its all presented as live which it clearly isn't.

Even the your song feature part.

"Hello, Radio one"
"Hi - can I request <<insert pop song here>>"
"No problem, here it is"

How does he manage that so quickly?

Also, I may just be naive, but surely more people would try and swear and act like fannys?

Moyles did pranks phonecalls way before Mills did.

How do you suggest he does it then?

Actually do it live, people swear then you have a bit of silence while he tries to find the song then play it?

Or pre-record some calls and cue the music up so it's seamless.

If it's clear it's not live, everyone knows it's not live, then how is it presented as live? Do you want them to expressly say "This is recorded"?

Think sometimes it's live... sometimes it isn't !! I've been on live, and didn't feel an intense need to start swearing.

"Hello, your live on radio one..." is an untruth

Also, things like when they have had someone on about something (say a boyfriend cheating on them or whatever). It always ends up going somewhere funny for the listeners. The full story may take a few days to be played out or over one show, but its nearly always presented as spontanious and just chance that they have managed to get a funny story out of the whole thing.

Im not explaining it too well mind you.

Ill maybe listen tonight and see what they are banging on about today.

As I have said before, I don't really mind the show for what it is, I just feel that there is a certain amount of falseness to it all.

but he doesn't really say the word LIVE much, he just says "You're on Radio 1" if I recall correctly.
Either way, I don't think it matters that much whether it's 'live' or not. At least they're not fixing things like local radio does (Trent FM and Ram FM are really bad for this).

The thing that makes it matter for me is how right up to just before the last song on Your Call he is still saying phone or text in to be on now. When obviously thats not going to happen. I know someone who had a song on Your Call, she called in and was told they would call her back the following day. They did, and recorded her, but only about five minutes before it went out. I don't have a problem with that at all, but I do with the constant urging to call for that day's show. And yes, he is very specific, he makes a point of saying "you could be on next". The implication is that it is completely live, and that is wrong. I'm just talking about Your Call, don't know about the rest of it.

At the end of the day... surely the most important thing is getting your blooming song on, pre-recorded (live) or what. :-(

I cant understand why - surely you can just put it on yourself?

I appreciate that they need to try and be interactive, but the majority of the songs in the "your choice" section seem to come from the playlist.

Moyles was playing the Thundercats theme this morning - you wouldn't get that on Mills!

Like I said, I don't have a problem with the way they do it, I just have a problem with being lied to. If what they need to do is to prearrange, pre-plan and pre-record, fine - just don't pretend its not.

not this again, it's duller than a dull day in Droitwich, yes some of its recorded, but you answer the question Footie in how they can cue the records.... they want to play 10 songs, they wait until someone requests them, then, if they don't sound too stupid they call them back and get them to introduce it live, or sometime I think they look at the requests and think "good call" give them a call on the same not sounding like a cabbage premice and if they are ok, they put them through. This vetting process is what make it pretty sure that they won't swear on air either. No if you listen to allot of the pre-recorded stuff, you where he tells a boyfriend that the girlfriend is sick of him picking his nose, then of course that has to be done in advance just in case.

I like Mills, he is funny, and Chappers is excellent, it's entertainment, what I hate is Friday's show, floor fillers - what is that - the only floor filling I do is grouting the slabs on the Patio, thank you very much indeed.

This grates on me as well, if you have a request section, you request something you don't normally hear on the radio any more! I appreciate this is partly down to the listener, but it does annoy me.

It is better when they do the Ten Hour Takeover or similar request shows. Moyles is known to do this style of request show on occasion and it works bloody well.

But some do get through live on that days show which is why they are "urging" you to call. You actually could be on next! And for those that don't get it on that day, all is not lost as they might get rung back the next day.

And there's normally a point where he says it's your last chance to call to get your song on, which is usually not right up to the last song.

All true - but there is still a tacit implication that the feature is fully live, which isn't necessary. I've recently stopped listening though. Seemed like the sensible thing to do when the show stopped being enjoyable.
