I'm a big believer that we should all know exactly what the food on our plates is, and how it got there. I also think that if more people were aware of the appalling plight of some of the food animals in our farming system - and also the imported ones - people might be more inclined to pressure for sustainable and non-intensive farming and food production to become the norm, rather than the exception. I am a committed carnivore, but I'm pretty fussy about sustainability in food production. Ideally I'd like to have a smallholding and produce and rear a lot of my own food.............well, I can dream.

That Joe Mott lookalike on Ramsay's F Word was impressive talking about donner kebabs and stuff, but I've gone and bought Jamie's latest book, I have yet to give it a gander.

I don't want any animal treated cruely but at the end of the day if it is bred for food I would kill it myself rather than not eat meat.

Plucked a few pigeons in my time...

haha. gaspode's got a gun!

i hate people who freak out about meat. if you don't know something died to give you a roast, you're a fool. also factory "farming' is totally deplorable. i'm not against meat, just against the sanitization of people's perception of it and factory farming. i'm vegan for completely stupid reasons.

I've always tried to make sure my kids know that what they are eating is an animal, and that its ok to go "aaaaah, cute" about something you are going to eat. First time I brought home a leg of Fallow deer to cook for them I told them it was Bambi's leg......they still enjoyed eating it.
