Its very hard to make a film as good as the book. There is so much more scope for detail in a book than in a film.

Look at The Da Vinci Code! The book was cracking but the film failed miserably!

Well I've not read the book yet and have vowed to read it before I see the film, but my mate says The Da Vinci Code film is really good. I read Angels and Demons though and that is superb. There is no way the film will live up to that.

You do need to read the book before you see the film. You will understand it all soooo much better if you do that.

As in Angels and Demons, Dan Brown goes into loads of detail about the background of the story. Whole chapters pratically explaining things that are quite important. There simply isn't enough time in the film so its shown in flashback and takes up about 2 minutes. I remember thinking when I watched it that people that hadn't read the book wouldn't have picked up on some of the key storylines.

The only down side to reading the book first is you know how it ends. As always in his books, theres a wee twist at the end.

Read the book first though.

I only watched about the first half of "A Clockwork Orange" before I got too confused and gave up on it. It strikes me as one of those films that doesn't live up to its own hype. I aint read the book so can't comment.

and one of the examples where the film almost equals the book... and by film I don't mean that one with Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, and a pre-real-fame Jack Black. I'm talking about the one made in 1973 and made with a plot much closer to the original.

I think most people would have got that without the explanation, especially seeing as the Bruce Willis remake isn't even called the same.

A Clockwork Orange was brilliant because it was way ahead of it's time; it's a very clever story.

Some people still make that mistake... and some people are still very picky too.

Ok, I'm going to have another go at trying to enjoy Terry Pratchett. I'll take Gaspode's advice and go for a later book.

Yes. When I was a kid it was one of the worst zoos in the world, these days, since it changed hands back in the eighties, it is considered one of the best. I have a bit of a problem with zoos in general though.

Did they have zoos when you were a kid Yudyud?

I thought it was all travelling circuses with freak shows like the bearded lady and the elephant man.

Do you know, I have never been to a circus in my life. Somehow I don't feel I have missed out. And Baggie, thats not your shoelace you're tying up there.

Probably, wouldn't be the first time he has made that accusation! Totally wrong, I might add.

The Da Vinci Code is a great story but it isn't well written.

I wouldn't say Angels and Demons was particularly well written either, but it was a compelling story and once you were into it you couldn't put it down.
