Moyles this morning was on about not giving the Kaiser tickets to someone simply because they were 35, and outwith R1's target range (!!). Aled seemed to agree with this view (!!).

When are R1 gonna get the fact that you can be over 30, and indeed, up to 90 (if you like), and still be an R1 listener..... and still like lots of modern bands and music.

Off to listen to Radio 2 now ....... NOT!! :(

I didn't hear this bit (must have been before I was up, I've got the day off today - ironically to travel to Doncaster and play table tennis in the Dome tomorrow and Sunday, but could I get tickets... anyway) but they have talked about the target audience before and it's always in jest, I'm sure it wasn't meant seriously.

Radio 1s target audience is 16-24... I think it should be raised 16-35. Who listens to Wogan at 25??!!

No you cheeky little ballbag you, I am not. I hope. Actually I think Wogan is funny, I just can't handle the radio show, its sounds like it is being broadcast from a sofa somewhere, with a log fire in the background and a hot cup of tea on the coffee table, and the wife bringing a plate of hot buttered toast in..... and its just a bit too comfortable for me. He is one hell of a broadcaster though, I can't criticise Wogan.

Apologies, I know how old you are really.

I agree with your Wogan related ramblings, he is great, although it is proper fall asleep radio.......... fall asleep in a good way though.

Wogans great - so random!

How anyone can flow so seamlessly from topic to topic is beyond me.

And, Yudster, I believe his "wife" is reffered to as "The Current Lady Wogan".

I expect there is a some seriousness in what they said, (I didn't hear it) but pretty much every bit of junk mail that is delivered to your door, every tv or radio show, every newspaper advert rely somewhat on guaging who there target audience is, it's part of the corporate society we live in.
unfortunately quite often these target groups are based on outdated information.
I also think that the groupings for Radio 1 as a holistic service would obviously be wrong, the same groups that listen to Chris Moyles, probably wouldn't listen to say Zane Lowe, or even Jo Whiley, each show should have a different target catchment, and Chris' should be for a broader age group.
Saying that though, it doesn't mean that old farts like me can't listen and enjoy the shows, it just means that things like competitions arent targeted at us.

I do think Aled and Chris believe in Socio-Economic groupings, remember the Helen Mirren / Newsbeat outburst?

The Radio 1 target audience is the 15-24 age group.

The listening fogies over 35 should bugger off to Radio 2 and become a TOG.

TOG = Terry's Old Geezers/Gals

Wogan's club consisting of fogies over the age of 40 who wear sandals (and usually beards if they're male or from Norfolk) and spend the summer months driving around Cornwall in a Volvo estate.

Here's a picture of a typical TOG (from the togs.org website)
