Well to each their own I say, I personally can't stand Rugby (or Ruggers as it's called), all that hoo-rah henry guff that goes with it, "you're not a man til you can drink a pint of your team-mate's collective wee at the pub" noncence, and yet all they seem to do to me is run, fall over, get jumped on, get up, run, fall over, get jumped on, get up, run, fall over, get jumped on, get up etc etc. It's just dull.

football is about looking at a bunch of blokes chase about after a ball. End of story.

I love football. I love rugby too - both codes, although League more recently. Quite how this translates to wanting to pick a fight is beyond me, but I'll beat you up if you want, Foot Loose!

If they're reasonably fit, I would think they could play but don't get the breaks because people from south america or Italy are brought in instead.

What you're saying is that most people, given the chance and with the right attitude, could play football to the same standard that we see in the English Premier League, which is, by definition, our elite league?

By the same token, could most people race cars to the standard that would be required in the average F1 team, if they were given the chance?

I'm all for people improving with practice, but there comes a point where everyone reaches their peak, no matter what their chosen sport is. Everyone has a different level of ability and, yes, some work harder than others, but in the end, to reach the elite levels, you have to have some level of natural ability as well.

Not the same. Not everyone can drive a car for starters... especially not at high speed as evidenced by road crash statistics.

I feel any racing driver and so on is doing something extraordinary, yet last I looked they were still paid less than football players who, in my opinion, aren't really doing anything special.

OK but you could apply the same logic to any sport you choose; you can only play at the top level if you work at it and you have the ability to do so.

The interview was brilliant. Havent heard such a great show for ages. And you could hear Chris getting all excited as finaly he had an opportunity to use his "id love to cop off with you" techiques. Dom was great and it was all very very good. More shows like that Chris.

See my above post, already answered that one.

I'm not sure the principle can be transferred to most sports, but most sportsmen outside of football aren't overpaid idiots.

Last time I looked Schumacher was richer than any footballer................MUCH richer. I imagine Rossi earns more than footballers aswell.

There's been this debate on here somewhere before.... can't find it at present........... but I do know that I was largely right then too.

Dunno where your figures are from, but last I looked, Beckham actually became the highest paid person in ANY sport in the whole world.

I just find it hard to respect footballers unless we're talking pub league etc where they're not paid millions per hour, and in some cases barely paid at all. That i can watch, I can also watch Rugby at any level.

Well in any case the David Beckham deal surpasses any contract in sports world wide and shouldn't really be used as an example of how footballers earn more than motor sport drivers, it's ridiculously high and thus should not be considered the norm. If you take a wider view you'll find that in general the top motor sport drivers of the world will earn more per anum than the top footballers of the world.

and of course you have figures to prove this....

Given that there are some F1 drivers who have to pay for their drive, via sponsorship and don't get paid per se, I somehow doubt they are paid more. The extreme example for F1 was also used in Michael Schumacher, so the same can be said for F1.
