As Dave briefly mentioned at the end of the show, you all need to get your tax returns in by Wednesday, so first class post best to get done today, or you risk a £100 fine.

Who here is still to do it, that is if they have to do it ?

I did mine last week so feeling smug !

Georgie Girl thank you :P

I believe it to be because I only declared myself self employed in October.
Although I am freelance, if I stop working because I'm not getting paid here! do I declare myself not working?

I will ring up again and ask, maybe use works phone bill.

How typical of a goverment-related agency to give wrong info.

Housing Benefit did that to me when I was unemployed. Told me what I needed to give them, I gave them that and they rejected the claim coz they claimed something was missing...

It would be a bit of a commute.

Danny Boy, they were right in the advice that they gave, ish, you have got till april 5th this year to register and you don't have to submit your earnings until this time next year, but only the earning relating to the period October 2006 until april 5th of this year. However if you do it early and you have tax due then you could pay tax for the year to April in July, with a balancing payment in January ( which in effect will be your 3rd installment, as really you should be guessing your tax, and paying something at the end of January based on this guess )

Oh god... don't take there word for it!! I`m employed by the department in question... and I know the pisspoor training these contact centre people get!

If you started after 6 April 2006 you're fine this year (your first return will be 2006/7).... but get your CWF1 form in within 6 months of starting or we'll send my mate Chris in with the knuckledusters!! :D

You don't have to declare yourself not working.... only really if you stop completely then if you tell them/us we can cease your self employment and stop your tax returns.

Any questions drop me a PM or something and i`ll guide if i can! :D

I`m only a low grade paper shuffler, but i`ve been there 4 years so know sadly too much about it all. I know more than the helpline monkeys anyway... especially as we clear up their screw-ups all the time. We are currently surrounded by 4000 returns at the min!

No promotion.... there shedding 25000 jobs at the min and theres a promotion ban on.

I should leave, but it's too eay a job and too convienient, bus stops outside the house and right outside work, 39 hour weeks (flexitime allowing a 3 day deficit!), 5 weeks a year holiday and ome great workmates. Saps the old motivation to move to a 9-5, 4 weeks holiday grind.
