The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

From the BBC Press Office:

BBC Radio 1 announced today that the station's Friday early breakfast slot (4-7am) would become a breeding ground for new and emerging talent giving existing DJs and future signings a key show in which to work.

The presenters will front the show on a rotational basis kicking off this Friday 12 January with Radio 1 Surgery host Letitia.

Ben Cooper, Head of Programmes, Radio 1, said: "The early slots have always been a place that DJs could develop their broadcasting skills and have the freedom to experiment.

"We've seen major stars like Chris Moyles and Scott Mills emerge from these shows and now we have a place dedicated to developing the stars of the future."

Previous Friday early breakfast hosts Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates will now concentrate on the show they were promoted to in September - weekend breakfast (Saturdays and Sundays, 7-10am) - as well as their extensive television commitments.

Sounds good doesnt it! Finally given a new place for talent! Letita is a weird choice for the first show though. However, according to Radio Today future guest hosts will be : Ace and Vis (1xtra), Joe Mace, Eddie Halliwell, Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Steve Jones (T4), Simon Amstall..........

Whereabouts did you get the info about the hosts from? Do you have a link? They all sound pretty good, and I'll enjoy hearing some new talent on Radio 1.

If this concept flops, maybe Sara Cox will be given the slot, or Vernon.

Possibly, although I doubt either of them would be very keen. I think it should work well. After the hours of pre-record over Christmas, Radio 1's lack of new talent was harshly exposed, and it's good that they're making the effort to get new daytime DJs on board. If any one of the current daytime presenters decided to leave, the bosses would be pretty stuffed with regard to replacements.

Best Idea Radio 1 have had in a long long time. Don't know why Annie Mac is on the list though - she's hardly a new talent, although a good DJ all the same. Simon Amstell was on Radio 2 recently wasn't he doing a show - filling in for Mark Radcliffe I think. Anyway, I may well be persuaded to tune in to some of these

Letita did a good job I thought. Although she just did all of JK and Joel's features. Would think she would be a bit original.

No way??!! What's the point of that? Thought the whole idea of the programme being given over to 'new talent' was to showcase their 'talent'. If they're going to repeat the format of JK/J show, may as well not bother. I didn't hear the programme tho - so only going on what Fathomer's put. Wanted to, but getting up at 7 is early enough for me if I don't have to!
