I don't think that it's a good idea, as soon as I read that I was reminded of the very poor attempt at making a film out of Hitchhikers.

Will it be the same cast ?
If so then this is a good idea, provided the script is right, and there not to hung up on carrying on the plot lines etc.
This was a classic show, which is sadly missed. And it was like my local pub, being cold outside and no kind of atmosphere.
I think they should do a Holby City Movie, the Doctor with the Red Hair got her bra out last night phooar !

Cool then, got to be better than Happy Feet, which I had to endure with Boboff Babes between Christmas and New Year.

Get this as a film Script.

Penguin can't sing, only dance, gets castigated as evil due to this difference, and gets blamed for evil in world, ie no fish. He swims for miles after a fishing boat, gets tired ( 2hours for this bit) Gets found, put in a zoo, dances, walkes back with Tom Tom on, humans turn up and he gets all the Penguins to dance (oh the irony !) so all human kind stops fishing (8 minutes for this bit)

What a load of rubbish.

Have they not been saying a movie is in the pipeline for years now?

Is this a valid "its coming out in a month" sort of claim?

Perhaps if you and Mrs Boboff had take care with your happy hips all those years ago, you wouldn’t have had to endure happy feet.

Having said that it sounds like a great film.

The movie was mentioned many years ago, but was also dropped many years ago - have a look at the official website -
http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/ under 'Movie Deck', you will see there is a section called 'The Making of the movie' and the last entry was June 2001...

Sorry guys, No movie.

The first three series of Red Dwarf were brilliant. After that, it got quickly worse and worse. If they stick to the original story, it might be ok. If they incorporate all the later story lines which had nothing to do with anything, it will be crap.

if they use the same cast as the tv show, it will be depressing and extremely not funny. i liekd it a lot 10 years ago, but i was also a massive sci-fi geek and a lot younger. now i only find people getting kicked in the nuts to be funny.

Well isn't Craig Charles in jail at the moment? That would kinda preclude the main star appearing and I bet the movie has been put on further delay because of this, if not shelved altogether.

As a side not bagforballs, I thought the HitchHikers movie was quite good.
Each version is subtly different (the radio show, the book, the TV version, the computer game, the duvet cover, the kitchen sink etc) and every change in this had been originally scripted by Douglas Adams before he died (i.e mainly the Trillian kidnap plot and the POV gun).

No, he was cautioned with drug posession however.

The press did seem to have it in for him a few years ago, for no apparent reason.

The original Red Dwarf episodes were class as Yudster said - but as for using the same cast (ie actors) - nah would never work - too old now for a start. The Cat was soooooo cool tho!

Yeah just look at the American version that never got past the pilot stage.
One of them had Rimmer's H being replaced with a red dot though, making him look Hindu. Not a bad thing, but just not Rimmer. They did have a female Cat in one of them though.

hang on a minute, have they actually gotton the film up and running??

This has been in the pipeline for so many years now and Doug naylor has never been able to get the cash to actually make the film.

Red Dwarf has been piss poor since Rob Grant stopped writing it with Doug Naylor (series 7,8 and 9)

Off Topic Longview - What is that Tab for on your Sig Strip? I played it through a few days ago but didn't recognize it... Is it a jingle or something?
