Initially when i heard this i thought 'Oh Jesus!' but its apparently going to have Tucker Jenkins, Alan Humphries and crew, Zammo and all that lot in it, same actors as characters etc.

I am 34 and this Grange Hill was the business. I cant bloody wait now, anyone else remember these guys and what do you reckon about the idea of the movie?

Making a movie based on old programmes never works

IE

The Brady Bunch Movie
Starsky and Hutch
Shaft
Mission Impossible

I hated all of these films so I have absolutly no desire to sit through a "Grange Hill Movie"

Dont get me wrong i despise remakes, all of them. The thought of checking out Tucker etc would be ok though, as its same actors. If not same actors wouldnt bother.

I agree with Longvoo.........remakes in general and TV programs -----> films don't really work.

Although Grange Hill was institutional in my child hood, and very dear to my heart, and in fact it has been watched by 25 - 35 year olds more than any other TV program....... now that's a fact, I think the figure is about 80%, but don't quote me on that.

What about Serenity (Firefly), Thunderbirds (The puppet films as opposed to the live action one), Thundercats (Ho!), Family Guy (maybe), Star Trek (the even numbered ones, except 10, at least), The Twilight Zone, The X-Files (Not a great example, but it was ok) and, of course, South Park. I don't think it's fair to say that all TV-to-Film conversion don't work, because a lot of them have. The main problems with the ones Longview01 listed is that the TV programs themselves were crap, and other programs such as Charlie's Angels, Scooby-Doo, Josie and the Pussycats and The Flintstones (it wasn't actually crap, but it wasn't enough to build a film out of either.

That said, some of the upcoming TV-to-Film conversions could be good, like The Simpsons, Futurama and Transformers.

Of course, I do expect a Grange Hill film to be absolute pap.

Starsky and Hutch, Shaft, Charlies Angels, Scooby-Doo and Mission Impossible were not bad TV shows, they were wildly regarded as being......generally very popular shows.

Absolutely no offence to you Consul, nor your followers, but the examples you have chosen reek of cult, geek and conventions......... X-files, Star Trek, Serenity (never heard of it), Thunderbirds, the Twilight Zone. My point is that the people who like those kind of TV programs have the loyalness to go and enjoy the feature films based on said TV programs, as the films are usually basically just 1.5 hour episodes.

But when you try to make a film based on a more "generically popular" TV show, (I'm trying to avoid using the word family, but you get the point) it generally doesn't work, people will go along to see it for the name, and not as such for the content....... if that makes sense.

I think the difference is, is that what I described as "cult" are made with the fans in mind, because with out the loyal fan base, there would be no show........ no cult. But the other "generic" film remakes are made with "money" in mind, because the big cheeses (not our big cheez) know that the crowds will flock in to see the film regardless, for nostalgia purposes if anything. It's a retirement fund for the producers.

For every good film of a great TV Show.... theres shite like the Ali G movie... OK it wasn't that bad but the TV show was far better. I haven't seen Borat yet because I fear the same.

Sounds an odd idea. It's not what I'd immediately think of turning into a film. I remember watching it though, I liked it quite a lot, but I'm not sure if I would now. Is it still on TV? I have lost touch with childrens' television completely.

And then you have the simpsons movie coming out in July - is this the earliest promo campaign ever??

Dont mind ordinary TV to Big Screen conversions its like Geonosian says, the trend of remaking perfectly good films is to be despised.

Oh and the simpsons trailer is mighty funny, Homer on the ball crane hehehe
