The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

It's true that it wouldn't be quite so much of a problem if these things were funny, but I find being given NO credit as an audience member puts a steely look on my face. I'm a grown-up, and I can hear when people are acting, and I hear it a LOT on Mills' show. A lot.

I know many people don't believe thiese things are made-up, but next time you hear Mills, do it from my perspective just to see what I mean. The wooden way people say things, the convenient way things drop into place (for example when he filled in for Moyles and rang Americans with funny names, not ONE SINGLE person was in at the time) and so on and so on.

You'll see.

pre-recorded, yes... made-up... how can you possibly say???

You haven't given ONE valid piece of evidence yet that it's made up...

Demonherse, why must you be so blunt. Let Jimmer have his opinion, and if you don't agree with it just say "I don't agree with you". There's no need for profanity suggestions.

I would if the opinion were well-informed or even backed up by some fact, in any way whatsoever...

To all those who say the diary is fiction, I say;
1: How can you know that? Have you lived with Laura all your life or known her? I doubt it.
2: Even IF it IS made up, what does it matter?

Come on DH,it's obviously made up... (as Jimmers says, most of the stuff on Scott Mills' show blatently is...)
Chris himself has even hinted towards the fakeness of Laura's diary, that's proof enough for me.

It matters because it's not funny. And it's an insult to the listeners intelligence.

You did refer to him as an F-wit. Now that's not nice.

Oh, and he did give some back up as to his reasonings.

For the record, I agree whole heartidly that it is fake, and no Horse man I haven't lived with her, I don't know her, I am not her......... I can just tell.

My overriding impression is that it is fiction. I don't "know" this in a factual sense, but after spending vast amounts of time assesing manuscripts of various sorts, that would be my opinion. And I would give a toss about that, if it was funny, but it is very, very not.

Be careful Yuddernator....... you haven't justified your reasoning.......the horse will get you.

It's not so much about evidence - I don't know facts any more than any of you. I do remember at the time of the first lot of diary stuff there were allusions made to it being set in 1994, but there were odd, out of context things like "maybe he just had his phone switched off" - like all schoolboys at the time carried around those massive phones with suitcases to carry the 4 ton battery in. I got my first mobile in about '96, and it was massive and expensive.

Also there was some guff about the sister scribbling on a school book, and in some bit of banter she shouted to Laura "but I was 4!!!" - which would make her 15 or 16 now.

Really, I don't care about odd bits and pieces, it's the air of arrogance where these people think you'll swallow any old rubbish just because they say it's true. Another example was the original 5 Decades with Colin and Edith: they used to claim the songs were played at that exact minute on the day in history. You know damned well there weren't computers around in the early years, so did they expect us to believe that some YTS girl sat there and logged the times and dates of every song on a W H Smith scribbling pad just in case in 20 years someone invented the PC?

Again, not a big deal, but I object to not being given any credit to spot a blatant lie. Why bother? It doesn't make the feature any less worthy to have it as stuff played on that day - and the fact they said it, like with all the things on all shows that have holes in them, just makes me more cynical about other things that happen by some spooky coincidence.

And about the diary "not mattering" if it's fiction - it fecking well does matter, because they're about to take a large amount of cash on the basis of it being real. If the book says on it that it's fiction, then I'll be happy, but otherwise someone's going to spend a lot of money on a lie. Imagine you bought an autobiography for 20 quid and found out it just wasn't true.

It matters.

Why does it? It's a book and a radio feature...

Will you next be telling me how Aled's travelogues and Christmas with the Westwoods from a couple of years ago are fictional?

I do apologise for the F-wit comment though.

It matters if fiction is sold as factual material. There are laws about such things. But as to why it should matter to an inidividual - well, it's very personal isn't it? What might seem like perfectly acceptable entertainment to you feels patronising and dishonest to someone else? Personal diversity - makes the world go round!
