Ok, a genuine question which, it being Christmas, I need to know the answer to - if iPods are so appalling, what should I buy then?

I wouldn't say that they are generally appalling, they are probably the most user friendly mp3 players around, its just that itunes can be a pain in the arse but it's bearable.
