no, you don't. To sue for slander/libel, you just have to prove that a comment made is harming your reputation and/or adversely affecting your business. In this case, if Hanlon believed that Chris calling her fat was affecting viewers to her show or somesuch, she could attempt to sue him.

Whether it's actually true or not is not an issue, altho Chris would have the option of claiming "truth" in his defence. But as 'fat' is an objective concept anyway it would be impossible to prove either way.

Were it to happen, I suspect a better defence for him would be "fair comment" which is basically saying that he's entitled to state his opinion.

..Sophie was the one that bottled it, and nearly ruined what turned out to be a memorable piece of radio. If Sophie HAD done it, nobody would be getting their snickers in a twist about the f word, as it would not have been such a high profile piece of name calling. Hanlons little show was smaller than a cake crumb beforehand so she should get real, this career boost from Moylesly is priceless and well if she plays her cards right (which she seems to be doing by whipping up a creamful frenzy) she may just be able to afford a few more trips to Greggs, not the courts tho, chris and hanlon should be friends, go on trips to cadbury's factory etc.
