The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Interestingly, amazon's blurbs describe the diary as a "radio prank".

I am sort of intrigued as to how much of it is fake even tho I get the point that it's entertainment value is what matters.

Travis Bickle wrote:Of course it matters. Whether it is recorded or not is irrelevant. Rehearsed is the key. Mills stuff is rehearsed, made up bollocks.

Hang on, every programme on TV is rehearsed, from the news to X-factor. Every show is rehearsed (with the possible exception of baddiel and skinner unplanned but it was rubbish anyway) to make it as smooth as possible so everyone knows what they are doing and they can make it as tight as possible. Everyone knows that Kate Thornton is reading from an Auto-que and that Ant and Decs SNTAW is rehearsed before hand even though it's a live show. I probably could have picked better Tv examples but look at the time.

My point is no-one cares. The whole point is whether it's made up or not and again no-one cares, big brother is made up, Fargo is made up, the Davinci Code is made up. As I said, I don't believe it is made up as it is so easy to do but even if it is, I still laugh at it.

For the record not everything Moyles does is live either, does that mean he's not as funny?

Films are made up but the makers are not hiding the fact. The news is read off an auto-cue, but it is not hiding the fact. Moyles has written segments of his show, granted. But he tends to run with the idea and a most of it is off the cuff.
The difference with the Mills tripe is that he makes out as if it is all genuine. Lets face it if Mills came out and said that he has spent the last few weeks writing Lauras Diary himself he knows that people wont find it funny. The entire feature simply falls down if it is not genuine.

Scott Mills is an overachieving local radio DJ. How anyone can listen to him really is beyond me.

I can think of many films that pretend to be true, as I mentioned before, the title card for Fargo states "This film is based on actual events that took place in minnesota between..." and whatever dates it was, but it claims to be real but it wasn't, it was a complete work of fiction.

The Davinci code say "Everything in this book is based on real architechture and practises and...."and whatever else it says, but very little of his description of architechture and places is true, e.g Roslyn Chapel is spposed to sit on the original rose line in the book which ran through Paris, grab an atlas and unless they drew some weird maps back then it ain't gonna happen...

Entertainment is littered with examples of people claiming their work is either "real" or based on real events but is actually a complete fabrication.

I don't understand that just because Scott says it's real and you think it's not that you don't like it for that reason alone. If you just don't like it then that's okay, as I said before, different strokes for diferent folks and it'd be a boring world if we all found the same things funny. But to not like something because you think it isn't true, well that's just....laugahable surely?

What you don't seem to understand is that exactly how good a radio DJ is is a completely subjective discussion; you seem unable to accept other people's opinions. Your opinion is that Mills is overachieving, mine (and clearly a lot of others) is that he is the second best DJ at the station and fully deserves to be where he is.

I think travis bickle's had the old Scott Mills Knock back somewhere along the line.

To dislike someone becuace they seek to entertain by pretending and working at it, would be to dislike every comedian, actor, presenter, and public speaker that ever walked the earth, oh except Chris Moyles of cource, who is of cource completely unscripted, except the links, the subjects, the trails, the parodys, and the fact in his autobiography he is clearly seen to working very hard on his shows, and is actively projecting a "fake" persona. ie one which is more rude and confident and obnoxious than the "real" Chris.

Who cares if it's scripted, who cares if he's a gay, or a straight, if you like his show listen to it, if not don't, Personally in my world Laura's diary is real, and Mills is straight pretending to be gay for laugh's, that what I want my world to be like, it makes me happy, if you want an alternate reality I don't mind, what ever brings you pleasure.

And don't worry I am sure there are allot more DJ fish in the Sea, so to speak

Its like when they stopped showing baddiel and skinner live and prerecorded it a few days before and edited the best bits together.

I missed the liveness of the show, but it certinally made it funnier.

Quite right DemonHorse. I think Laura's diary is bollocks but i reckon discuss it on a Mills site instead of this one.

This thread was posted when Scott was covering for Chris, so there's no reason it shouldn't be here.

Am I the only one that finds the idea of listening to a teenage girl's diary wrong. Prying into the sexual life a teenager isn't of any interest to me personally. I couldn't careless who she had a crush on 20 years or now for that matter.

I've always wondered exactly why Laura would allow it, what exactly would she gain from being humiliated on a daily basis in that way? How little self respect can one person have? I don't really think anyone would, which is why I'm convinced its a complete fake. Which wouldn't matter a bit, if it were funny, but it isn't.

While, in parts, it was funny on radio I find it astonishing that it is actually getting released as a book.

Strange, I think I'd like it better as a book - the idea that its fiction wouldn't feel so incongruous, and I think it might be funnier. I doubt I'll find out though, I don't think it'll be on my Christmas list....!

I think it's great. Even if it isn't all true, it's great entertainment. I am a big Scott Mills Show fan though. I shall be going out to buy it on Thursday.

It's clearly made-up, as are most of Mills's features.

It's true that it wouldn't be quite so much of a problem if these things were funny, but I find being given NO credit as an audience member puts a steely look on my face. I'm a grown-up, and I can hear when people are acting, and I hear it a LOT on Mills' show. A lot.

I know many people don't believe thiese things are made-up, but next time you hear Mills, do it from my perspective just to see what I mean. The wooden way people say things, the convenient way things drop into place (for example when he filled in for Moyles and rang Americans with funny names, not ONE SINGLE person was in at the time) and so on and so on.

You'll see.

I agree, this spoils Eastenders for me, as it is obviously a pure work of Fiction, Damm those BBC types Duping the Public like this ! It's all part of a conspiracy to subdugate the masses, rise up brothers, against those that control the means of production, and let the prolatariat stand proud as brothers, sharing all things equally, and according to need,

Translated it means

Oh My God, lots, what a tit, this is sarcasm, it's it annoying, hey

You only get the option to Smiley when you Preview, which I think we all know I don't do very often, but I had to edit the post becuase the grammer was rubbish.

On a technical note I don't think that if people quote from the site they should be able to Edit the original Text, old Piston quoted one of my posts yesterday and took all the funny stuff out, not granted it didn't amount to anything more than a full stop but it's the principal of it, how do you feel about this, Herpiss pal

Oh and by the way I love you.

I think it's a very good idea Boboff, thanks for the amorous comment.

Funny, but I am going to be mature and resist the almost overwhelming need to fart about with this thing... for now ( insert devil smiley )
