The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Well I've just shook hands with Chris Moyles, and what a nice bloke he seems...

I live up north but work in Peterborough, so I thought I'd have a wander down thinking not many people will be available at 12:30 on a thursday...

I was wrong. I got bored walking along the queue, which was quite literally all the way down the highstreet.

So I wandered into Waterstones and headed upstairs and pretended to look at books. As I went up the stairs I heard a distinctive voice as he disappeared into a staff only area.

Luckily, being in my computer company work uniform (nice), I decided it would be an ideal chance to look at some computer books, which just so happened to be next to the staff only door. (OK, my stalker tendancies clearly showed themselves!)

Unfortunately a woman (Very helpfully) tried to tell me which book to get! But luckily I found a good excuse to get away - I had to ask the office first. Then Chris came back and I managed to jump in with a slightly geeky "Could I shake your hand Chris?" - despite noticing half way that he had a mug of tea in his hand. No problem though he came straight over and I uttered various other sad pathetic geeky comments. He seemed dead nice though.

He then went down to start signing books, and I took a few photos on the way out. Most were crap, but heres the best:

Oh and although I didn't get a book signed, or in fact buy one, I would like to point out that I HAVE bought a copy elsewhere, and read it. Oh and I'm sorry for kinda queuejumping![/img]

Thanks guys.

To be honest, despite being on his way down to the masses downstairs, he saw me on my way towards him and actually made an effort to come to me, rather than leg it as I may have been tempted to do!

The queue outside was utterly crazy though - I dunno if he will have managed to get through them all before having to leave for MK

Oh my god. I too took the trip to Peterborough today, which after a Sat Nav system failure and Traffic Survey took about 3 hours. It meant I only just arrived at the store at 12.25, and was lucky enough to be one of the last people they allowed to queue - 164 was the final number and I was 155th. A wait of around 90 minutes ensued, but wow was it worth it. Bearing in mind how long he had been having the same sort of conversations, he was just as welcoming, funny and sarcastic as I was hoping. After a shaky hug and kiss, I came away feeling like a small pathetic child, and promptly called everyone in my phonebook to shout 'Oh God I Just Kissed Chris Moyles' to them! Like I said, pathetic!! He managed to clear the queue and a couple of stragglers, but they were obviously trying to get him out of there to get down to MK.

What an amazing day.

Charlie - I'm glad I'm not the only one. I too want a bit sad... but my excuse was I was having to pretend to look at books as well as see my radio idol! I ended up paying £2 to park at asda and legged it down there. I dont think he arrived til about 12:45. I'd have never found the end of the queue!

I'll let you know if theres anything in the evening telegraph tomorrow.

Thanks clublander. Just been looking at the photos I took. Luckily there was an obliging lady who didn't mind me thrusting my camera at her saying 'please take one of us, please'! - and it has turned out really well. Can't work out how to post it on here though. But at least I have a lasting memory!

And why is it that when you need an assistant to help you in a shop you can never get one, but when you are casually using the excuse of looking at books so you can sneak some time with a celebrity, the employees are all over you?!?[/img]

LOL I was doing that too on Monday, for a good 15 minutes, circulating and looking at books about knitting and whatnot, I know exactly the feeling, my picture (a pepperami style snap) was crap too, just as well, so is my camera phone.

See i got really annoyed with the people in birmingham that couldnt be bothered to buy a book and queue for over an hour like i did. They just walked into the shop and still expected to meet him!

Is he being nice at the signings like asking how people are and that lark, to be honest I wouldnt really want to sit signing books for hours on end so I give my respect to him, personally I would just get a stamp made or some stickers

Hmmm, thats made me feel a bit better....
When I was told by Ottakars that they were trying to get Chris Moyles in Yeovil, I hatched a plan...
The School where I work orders a lot of books, so I asked the lady that orders the books if we could arrange an order and pick-up to coincide with a signing, she said Oh! you are so sad, let me know when he's coming and we'll arrange it, as long as you get a pic.
Alas, it wasn't to be :(
