yell.com?

It would be quite cool if the team filmed a homage to seinfeld in Longman's cafe. On a similar note - has anyone on the team seen Larry David's (Seinfelds co-creator) show, "Curb Your Enthusiasm"? It has a lot of similarities to "Extras" and sheds light on that Gervais' "genius" comes from nicking scenarios from under-exposed American comedy shows.

I highly reccomend "The Doll" episode from series two. The gradual build up leads to one of the funniest comedy end scenes you'll ever see.

I don't think Gervais hides that fact - he says Larry David is one of his idols. Not sure it is as under-exposed as you think either. Personally I am not a fan of either shows. Think Gervais is an excellent stand up comic but not a fan of his TV shows :(

The comment was more of a dig to the press hyberbole than Gervais himself. Whilst Curb you Enthusiasm has been shown on uk terrestrial tv, the frequency and scheduling are paralell to the crappy BBC/Seinfeld situation and therefore lends me to think that a lot of people watching "primetime" extras are not going to be familiar with this export.

We are both agreed on Gervais stand up talent however!

Bob Martin, an ITV sitcom starring Michael Barrymore in the late 90s was exactly the same as extras. Julia Sawhala played a mad lesbian version of herself, there were loads more actors doing exactly what Gervais gets them to do on Extras. I guess there really are no new ideas if the biggest UK sitcom of the last 2 years is similar to something Barrymore's done! That's someone Chris should interview- bloody Barrymore!
