Can't remember exactly, but i remember when i was still at uni, and he made that joke about Will young coming from behind in the number 2 spot to take George Michael, i think he got a txt message by the end of the show saying the exact same joke he'd made 10 mins previous!

I think it would have been about 1998, I wasn't working and was a fanatical Mark & Lard listener and for some reason I started leaving the radio on after they'd finished and thus heard Moyles. At first I found him mostly annoying; I remember hearing a parody they'd done of a Billie song and just turning the radio off in irritation. I dunno where that changed really...

Funny you should say that; I know a lot of people on here, whilst still listening to him, find him worse than he used to be - the hardcore, who have been fans for a long time... however, the appeal since he's been on Breakfast has broadened I think - I was speaking to someone the other day who said he found Moyles irritating and arrogant, but now he likes to listen, as it's more entertaining. I don't agree, but I can see how the appeal has broadened.

Definitely. The show is very mainstream now.

That's not really a bad thing, but in-jokes and cult references (i.e. Tony Byrne, David The Photographer etc) are very rarely made for older fans. Plus if they are, Moyles always explains them for the newer listeners.

He's not stupid. He realises he is doing the breakfast show and his appeal has to be broader than it used to be.

I just remember being hooked into the revolution in Jan 2004, never listened to radio at all before then, suddnely some bloke doing the bins to promote his new morning show seemed appealing. I still believe the likes of Colin and Edith are the plague of radio 1, they get given everything, and contribute nothing new or worthwhile in terms of character and wit, I shouldnt let them get to me with their fancy new shows, I do well enough normally avoiding their cosy intellectual musical stances. moyles rocks.

sometime during july, 2001. i was listening to a lot of mills' early breakfast at the time, and started listening to moyles in the morning at work. took me a few months to join here.

Late 1998, I'd make my way home from school and listen to Mark and Lard and instead of switching off I kept listening for a while when they'd finished and loved the show from the start. I don't get to listen as much now on the breakfast show but when I do I still find it as funny as I did then.

1997, got back from clubbing, chatted with some mates till 5, kicked them out, and checked the radio for my alarm (It has a habit of changing stations while I'm not looking), to hear this guy slating taxi drivers, really laying into them. Had to check that I was on Radio1.
