The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I am gonna revamp the Tedious Links page tonight, and am after some ideas for what to do with it.

I get the impression its a section not many people really visit often (a bit like the reviews nowadays), but if you did - what kind of information would you want? Stuff mainly about the tracks Dave chooses (facts, release dates, chart positions etc) - or more about the link itself? Flaws, a transcript if possible etc.

As for the feature, Parf Daddy may describe it as "an appointment to listen" - but for me, it had its day a long time ago. Dave always repeats the same tunes each year, and it is rarely funny anymore.

I used to like having a browse at the old Tedious Link page - mainly for the transcripts and the flaws that were pointed out on the show and by yourself and people on here. The Facts are also good, but not neccesary - same as the chart info. I stopped visiting as often when the transcripts were stopped - although I totally understand why as it took me a while to transcript them for the reviews so doing a weeksworth at a time must take a bit of motivation. However for a page dedicated to Tedious Link I think it seems a bit pointless not to have the actual link that Dave read out there. If you need any help with the transcripts I am willing to help out.

Also it would be a good idea (and I don't know if this has been done way back in the archive) but any Tedious Links we have in the sound vault where dave messed up reading it out or any particularly funny issues discussing the link post-song could be linked to the tedious entry - as well as any in the future that are clipped.

As for the feature itself, I enjoy having a non-playlist classic tune on the show, even if the feature and link itself isn't particularly interesting anymore. It's obviously at it's best when it's analysed even more which Rachel doesn't seem to do as much as Will. The whole reason "half time" came about was because of the fall out of Tedious Link and some genuinely funny links have come out of it. Recently it often seems like they have something specific in mind for Ramble rather than just "rambling" which takes a lot of focus of tedious and more times than not becomes just another link. It's wierd - at the start of breakfast the end of the show with Ramble and CPC more often than not held the comedy gold, and now it seems to be the reverse where the first hour or so holds it with JK & Joel chat and genuine rambling.

Sorry to have gone a bit O/T - but in summary I think Tedious should be kept, as I like the songs and it still has potential for links coming out of it if the team decide to use it.

Hiya, I'm new here, and a new convert to Chris Moyles (I used to listen to the One Who Must Not Be Named) and I am finding it SO much better.

I do like the tedious link bit, as I haven't heard any before it's quite interesting. I do think it might help things if there was a bit where you can request your own track and see how Dave links it, that will test his comedic skill.

Over all I like the slot, but I don't really have much experience of the show so can't really comment much.

Welcome to the board Flossie! Interesting post you made, I really love tedious link and think the show wouldn't be the same without it.

Thanks Dimon,

I kind of have to agree with you there! With my limited knowledge of the show, I find it is a defining characteristic, and it's removal would give the show a different dynamic. I say keep it!

This thread should have been a vote thread!

Interesting comment - don't worry though just because you haven't heard much doesn't mean you don't have as much right to express your views on the show - we're all listeners after all.

It's a good idea that people could in fact suggest tracks for Dave to link to - after all he claims "where the link goes, nobody knows" - but everyone knows it's him thus we get the same old tracks cropping up all the time. It might be too hard to just text/e-mail in the requests though as there would be so many Dave would just end up picking the one he wants. Maybe get that days One Road Traveller to suggest two or three songs for Dave to link to in the following Days tedious (then he would have a choice of what fits in with the playlist that day etc).

Of course there is always the problem of the audience knowing what will be the next days track so it takes the suprise element around it. This is just a suggestion mind, it's something the team can surely work with and could be just the thing to revitalise the feature perhaps. Good idea Flossie!

Thanks Fishheads!

I was thinking more along the lines of the e-mail feature that they have for one road travel on the website, and the tracks nominated give Dave a larger repetoir to choose from. He would still have the freedom to shoose whichever track he wanted and link to it, but it would keep the feature fresh.

I used to look at the Tedious Links page on this site quite often, but dont anyway as I lost interest in the Tedious Link at the beginning of the year. I dont listen to the show as much as I used to, but when I go the Tedious Link just fades into the background, and sometimes I dont even realise that the song being played is part of the feature! I get the impression the team dont really care about the feature so much anymore, just a good excuse to play a classic song. I can't remember the last time when there was ever any Tedious Link discussion (which never really interested me anyway).

As for the redesign on the site, I did find some of the facts interesting but a lot of them I was already aware of through the chart books etc. One stood out and that was the fact that Radiohead's Creep sold 4000-5000 copies?, something I never knew before
