Chris had a go at Scott Mills’s backtiming again because he was all of one second late in ending his show today. Scott said ‘sorry love’. Chris nicked David Garido’s catchphrase and told Scott ‘don’t call me love alright’. Chris inevitably began today by talking about the Leeds - Man U match last night. Leeds lost 3-2 but Chris made up for it by getting absolutely hammered in the pub, although he said he felt fine today. Dave felt awful but said he was only borderline tipsy last night. Dave said he made beans on toast when he got in last night but he couldn’t remember eating it. He woke up to find his clothes all over the landing floor as if he’d just gone straight to bed and forgotten about eating the food. Dave said he was getting too old for all this now and Chris said you sure can’t do what they did last night and get up at 5am expecting to do a good breakfast show. Chris said the best moment in the pub last night was when Roque Junior scored his second goal for Leeds. Chris and Dave were watching the match with Chappers who vowed never ever to watch football again if Roque Junior got his hatrick. Chris said it’d make Chappers job on 606 quite difficult and he’d end up just like Spoony. Dave said of last night ‘great game, great company, great times’.
Chris taped Aled in the first episode of WawFfactor last night on S4C and watched it this morning with Dave. Chris found it bizarre as all the singing and the actual show was in Welsh, but the adverts in English. Chris asked Aled where all the thousands of contestants were as there were only 12 singing in last nights show. Aled said that they had all been narrowed down by other people and this is the stage where the showbiz judges come in. Chris said Aled’s ego was getting bigger and bigger and he said even Simon Cowell bothers to show up for the original auditions. Aled announced who had got through on last nights show and left big Davina McCall style pauses. Chris told Aled that his welsh has improved a lot and Aled said he ‘can do street welsh’. Dave asked if he was like Ali G (Chris said Taffy G) and did an impression of Aled saying Bo Shamaaaii which was very funny. Chris also asked Aled why he referred to himself as looking like Brad Pitt in last night’s show. Aled said he meant Keanu Reeves. Chris said more like Jim Reeves.
Georgina had a cold so Johnny Massey was reading the news today. Chris put him off during one bulletin and made him make a right pigs ear of the story he was reading. Chris did a few quick fire questions asking all about Johnny. He’s 32, from Llandudno in North Wales and recently got married. Juliet Ferrington was reading the sport and Chris said she was looking very foxy today. He asked Johnny if he’d have a go and he said yes. Chris said ‘I bet your wife will be delighted to hear that’.
Luke, who lives in Lewis near Brighton, won 7 tickets to Friday’s Bikini Beach Party on Quiz Me Quick today. He supports Norwich and Chris said they might be playing Leeds soon. Luke said they wouldn’t as Norwich are going up and Leeds are going down. Chris also played a funny clip from BBC Radio Cornwall of a guy not really understanding the meaning of a text message that was sent in. The text message was about Beef Curtains. Chris also revealed 11 weeks after his car crash that he finally got his car back today. Rachel is going away to LA next week. (Rachel & LA = Gotta be a Rachel Stevens parody in there somewhere). She’ll spend 8 days there and then 4 days in New York with her cousin. Rachel got an e-mail from Alan listening in LA. He is originally from Scotland and asked Rachel if she wanted to meet up for a drink when she goes over there. She said it depended on what he looked like. He sent a picture and Rachel said on second thoughts no. Presumably Aled will be filling in as producer from next week.
Also on Radio 1 Online it says Pink will be a guest on the show next Wednesday although Chris hasn't mentioned this on air yet. Chris talked to Spoony live from the One Life Cafe in Brighton to make the draw for todays Radio 1 DJ Pop Quiz. Afterwards Chris, Dave and Spoony all placed a fiver on who they thought would win. Chris put his money on Huw from the session in Wales and Lottie. Dave put his money on Jo Whiley and Dr Mark, while Spoony put his money on Bobby Friction and John Peel. Chris read out the full draw to Peel when he spoke to him later and John said he was looking forward to meeting these people. John amazingly still can’t pick up the Moyles show in Brighton and said there was a big, thunderstorm there last night. This bikini beach party is going to be good then. John also had the news that Mogwai have pulled out of appearing on his show tomorrow. He said Chris should come and see Melt Banana perform live tomorrow. Chris said ‘calm down Aled’. Chris is meant to be going to see Janes Addiction with Dave but said he might go and watch Melt Banana instead as Peel was raving about them.
Chris said that Beyonce would be ringing in to the show again from New York as she enjoyed the last 2 interviews so much. This is her 3rd time on (Chris still hasn’t met her in the flesh) and Chris said he was running out of questions. After a five minute brainstorming session some questions were compiled, my favourite being ‘Which Back to The Future do you prefer - 1, 2 or 3?’ Chris and Dave padded until she called and got involved in a debate about whether Beyonce was related to DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles. Sure enough Beyonce was on the line
(sounding half asleep) from New York and played along with Chris’s questions until he asked her whether she had a boyfriend. She said she wouldn’t answer but that Chris could be her boyfriend. He said he was taken but it was going to be a great thing to tell the lads in the pub at the weekend - I turned down Beyonce. Chris talked about her upcoming UK gigs and in particular the one in Edinburgh. Chris said it would be cold so she should bring a scarf and duffelcoat.
After the interview had finished Chris played a record and about 20 seconds into it picked up the line to say thanks to Beyonce. He was met by her PA saying ‘thanks very much goodbye’. He said they didn’t hang around and did a very funny impression of this woman just before 5 o’clock. Chris went on Beyonces website and said they had completely the wrong idea about why people like her. He said he likes her because she’s quite a good singer and very fit. In the pics on her site though the bonus ones were of her as a child. Chris said (echoing the thoughts of every male) ‘I don’t want to see her as a child, I want to see her in a bikini’. Chris pressed the wrong button and played Fatman Scoop after the Tedious Link pips today. Dave did some makeshift pips but was one short.
