Well....

IF I decide to record any bits of the show, it may be done a number of ways.

If I record at home, then through my stereo onto MD then into my computer.

If I'm at work, same method in the studio through the mixing desk, but I can also go through the desk straight onto the computer, save as MP3, jpb's done.

Simple.

Should you not be doing something productive in that studio rather than listening to Moyles?

yeah, and I usualy am, but I have the tuner on so that I can listen to moyles at the same time and use the cleen feed off the desk through to the computer with tuner on pre-fade.

I set my PC at work to record a 10 minute loop of the show, then if there is something worth saving I do.

This way you don't end up with 3 hours of audio to edit :D

but what happenes if the bit that wants saving starts after 5 mins of the loop and finishes at five minutes into the next loop?

does that matter?

You've always got 10 minutes worth.

but surely when the ten minutes is up, a new loop overwrites the first loop, meaning you lose the first five minutes of the thing you want to save?

or am i talking out my /-\rse?

just trying to find out a little more info

Basically, you set the software to record the last x many minutes. Then if something good happens in the last x minutes you can save it.

I have a Psion Wavefinder (costs £40) which lets me recieve digital (DAB) streams through my PC. This lets you record the audio stream straight to mp2/mp3, so the quality is pretty good :-).

So the person who told me that it's practically illegal to have a radio tuner in a radio studio because you're not allowed to re-transmit another station was talking nonsense? - jc

No, because it's not re-transmitting. FOr example, if I'm editing, dubbing, recording, WHATEVER in the studio, I put the tuner on PREFADE (i.e. so it doesn't go out) and use the cleen feed function on the desk so that the tuner is recorded on the pc. *ARGH!!!*

Yes, I read the pre-fade bit. It's a neat solution, but I don't see why you should be allowed to re-transmit in the first place (if you wanted to). - jc

It's not illegal if both stations have agreed otherwise.

Take the BBC local stations, at night most of them switch to BBC 5 Live. At about 2.15am Five Live broadcast the news from ABC in America.

So that's being broadcast over hundreds of different stations at the same time.

The reason you can't re-transmit on ILR stations is that it would intefere with license agreements and also copyright regulations. For example, if you had two local radio stations with transmission areas as follows:

| X | | Y |

Basically, their transmission areas overlap. If station X was to put on station Y's output, then it would be transmitted over a greater area than station Y's license allows, therefore breaching radio authority regulations.

Understand? (sorry, my diagram was a bit crappy!!) :?

Heres what you need luv, a cable with a mini jack on both ends.

1. Plug one end into the stereo headpjone socket
2. Plug the other end into the back of your computer, next to the 'speakers' port
3. Get some audio software to 'record from line in'

Why the * has a certain group of people turned this thread into 'amateur radio audio musings'. I'm suprised how some of you manage to distinguish the processes of this equitpment when you double bent over it with your pants around your ankles.

Calm down stevo, I was only saying how I (sometimes) recorded bits of the show. Someone asked a question relating to that; I answered.
