Logically then, since neither the cat can land on it's back, or the toast buttered side up, the two objects will float, spinning madly in mid air. For one of them to fall would break the laws of physics.

With this in mid, if you affixed the cat/toast contraption to the bottom of a train and gave it a push, it would continue in a straight line until it met an opposing force. Using this information, it should be possible to replace the internal combution engine for the price of a few tins of Whiskers and some Flora.
