again album review, i had started typing and this friggin laptop went back to the last page and i lost my review so balls, ill do it again
1. square one - starts off all star trekky, this one has a new ordery feel with an edge riff. its a wee bit electronicy. disappointing
2. what if - a future single definitely, i bet my house on it, well if i owned it. they definitely been listening to abbey road. sounds like a day in the life mixed with golden slumbers. has a odd resemblance in the verse to sorry seems to be the hardest word. gets a bit louder thank god to the end cos it was a bit pedestrian.
3. white shadows - ahh another edge guitar riff, u2 wannabes anyone. its like u2 circa 1998 when they didnt have any good tunes.
4. fix you - hoping for an ode to bob the builder but alas not. he gets high notes here. this ones like a lullaby in the sense that it would be good at night to put you to sleep. following usual trend gets louder with 2 minutes to go.
5. talk - you know that sound that songs had when your cassette player was running low on the batteries, then some songs would pee you off cos you wouldnt know one way or the other, this is one of them. 5 songs in and its relying on drum machines a bit.
6. x&y - definitely about bob the builder this one. hes always trying to fix it he says. the music equivalent to diazapam
7. speed of sound - its u2 again, no its coldplay. this ones ok but nothing great.
8. the message - you know i quite like coldplay tunes, maybe theres something wrong here, maybe i need to here these 50 times before i tell you what i think of them. this ones dull as well.
9. low - ah summing up my score. sometimes youd like chris martin to sound a bit more excited and someone to stick some electric current up his arse to get him going. Q magazine gave this album 5 out of 5, then again i remember them giving REM 5/5 and then 2 years later they reviewed the album again and it got 2/5 so anythings possible. this ones not bad, a bit more life.
10. the hardest part - its keane, no its coldplay with a piano finally, doing what they do best. the old adage if it aint broke dont fix it springs to mind.
11. swallowed in the sea - terrible terrible rhyming in this, hes been at the rhyming dictionary. size - eyes - realize
i could write a song, 100 miles long - (id like to see him try)
12. twisted logic - this goes absolutely nowhere for 3 minutes and then it gets interesting but then hes just repeating the same 2 lines.
13. the secret track called Til Kingdom Come - I take it this was the song they wanted johnny cash to do or something like that, sounds like one of his songs. its ok, would prefer if cash sang it, more emotion in his voice, i dont care what you say.
so there ya go, my disappointing review of the coldplay album. i rarely give marks out of ten but im giving it 5/10.
