Bit of a dullard sort of a question this one but a neccessary one, for myself at least, nevertheless. I'm a bit behind in the internet connection stakes, if indeed such stakes actually exist and was basically just wondering if anyone knew of any ISP offering broadband internet whereby the means of payment involves something other than Direct Debit and a Credit/Debit card? Essentially i'd just like to be able to pay it off at the Post Office with the phone bill. If anyone happens to know of a service like that then your suggestions will be mildly appreciated.

If suggestions are only mildly appreciated then I don't think I'll offer any... If however they were much appreciated I might be that much more inclined to help.

On the topic of broadband, which ISP do people recommend? Our exchange FINALLY gets enabled on July 27th.

Best deal I have seen so far is £21.99 a month for 2mb broadband from Plusnet (seem a reputable company) - and no download caps.

Im with force9 (the same company as PlusNet) and would recommend them.

Only a few weeks ago they put on caps though with a fair usage limits which nearly led me to change, but luckily they've taken these off now.

It's soon to be ugraded to either 4Mb or 8Mb aswell (most likely the 8Mb because I am close to the exchange) - still for the £21.99 pm.

Please note: This is not an ad, but rather a helpful hint for all you ntl broadband people out there.

Ntl are (siliently) offering a free upgrade.

Speed increase from 750Kbps to 2Mbps—Free
Speed increase from 1.5Mbps to 3Mbps—Free
Speed increase from 300Kbps to 1Mbps—Free

Basically it costs whatever it cost you before, but it goes faster, however for tier1 (750Kbps), there is a 3GB cap per month, whereas the other two are 1GB a day.

So, except for tier 1, definately get it, but for tier one'ers you may need to decide based on your download useage.

Go here to upgrade http://www.ntlworld.com/data-feeds/editorial/microsites/tierMigration/
. It only takes your username and password and about two minutes of your time.

Don't ask why NTL aren't advertising this, but it is legit http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/139/ntl-broadband-speed-increases-update-3

(If your not sure what tier you are on go here http://192.168.100.1/P_operation.htm)

Sorry if this is geeky, but that can't be a valid internet site, because anything with an IP of 192.168.x.x is a private network.

Sorry, 192.168.100.1 is the IP address of the NTL Cable modem (and possibly set-top box as well). It's got all sorts of facts and figures on your modem, including the download speed of your current connection. So sorry you non-ntl'ers, this information is completely useless for you.

Activation for Broadband on my 21st birthday!

I wouldnt go with NTL, only ever hear bad things.

http://www.adslguide.org would be a good site to read reviews and ask about ISP's on the forums.

yep in these new and funky times, i still go to the post office to pay.

ntl isnt really silently upgrading, they have a 24/7 channel on sky that doesnt stop promoting it.

NTL is known as TeleWest in some regions... I'm starting to wonder if PlusNet is also another NTL facade.

NTL and Telewest are different companies, but do not operate in the same regions as each other.
