I notice a lot of Simon Mayo's on the list... and thats good. I havn't listened to much of his 5 Live show (because I am at school and then when I get home I just put Moyles on) but his show on Radio 1 was excellent.

Why did they have to get rid of him. Getting rid of him was stupid because it means that Sara Bloody Cox gets more air time, and Moyles gets more air time which I don't like because in my mind the show has gone down hill since he started at 3 plus it meant no more Saturday shows which were always the best.

In fact - if Radio 1 were to say that they are stopping Moyles during the week and just having him on a Saturday, I would like that idea. But there is no chance of that with Moyles being the 2nd biggest show on the network.

Anyway - they should get Simon Mayo back!

They didn't get rid of Mayo, he left.

He'd been there a long time and decided it was time to move on. He was, after all, a lot older than most other DJs.

I'm sure they got rid of him and 5live took him on...

No, but he's a lot more into the target music whereas I think Mayo had tired of it and wanted to play stuff that appealed more to his age. Besides, Peel is a specialist music DJ, playing and he always gets to play stuff that he likes (that's his job), so it doesn't really matter how old he is. He still also does shows on other stations on the network. Mayo, on the other hand, is a mainstream DJ who I think just got a bit too old for Radio 1.

Well maybe radio 1 also sensed that he was getting to old for the station? I dunno, I thought he'd wanted to leave.

However it was, I think it was fairly mutual.

i rarely listen to mark and lard, but when i do they always seem refreshingly funny. I remember when they were taking the piss out of sliknot in a 'the archers' kind of way.

I think Mark radcliffe said that he was 42, 43 or 44 or something liek that the other day. They're early to mid forties and that's for definate!

I was gonna say Gordon Astley, he would have been my number 6.

The bloke is a genious! I never heard a broadcaster speak so fast for 4 hours non stop

He's still on the radio (BBC Radio Northampton, weekend mid-morning), he still also does comparing, magic & stuff.

I've never heard this before - whats the topic of their show, considering 5live is a news/sport station?

I'm fairly certain that Simon Mayo did not leave and was forced out by management. Anyway, getting rid of the late morning show was the biggest mistake radio 1 ever made. Daytime schedule these days just bores me stiff. If they wanted to get rid of Mayo, they should have just replaced the show instead of dragging all the other shows out to fill the gap. I think Scott Mills would have done Simon Mayo's show just as well.

I also agree with David that chris's show has definately gone downhill fairly dramatically since he has been on for 3 hours. The first hour is just dull, the second hour is ok if they have a guest but a bit crap if they don't, and the last hour sounds like they want to get the show finished a.s.a.p so they can get down the pub.

Get Mayo back!!!!

I think I'll have to give this a listen... over the past 2 weeks I have become a great fan of mark and lard - most possibly cause I have been home and been able to hear the show.

Jo Whiley, as I have previously stated should get the late shift at 12 midnight because I find it hard to get to sleep and she would be the perfect cure for it.

9-11 Mark & Lard with 11-12 Nemone with the Mystery Years
12-12:30 Newsbeat Extended

Its called Mark and Lards top teams where they build a football team with players based on a theme. For example, a team made from real-life footballers with celebrity names, there's a real goalkeeper called Barry White! The show is on thurs nights for around 1/2 hour at 8:05pm

the times at our school are changing so instead of us finishing at 3:40 we now finish at 3:20, so i get to hear an extra 20 mins of moylesy. as it stands i will miss only 20 mins of the show which is great because not much happens at the beginning. Except maybe when he pretended to scive off during the world cup, but that was ok because i was at home that day anyway. As for M+L, i rarely get to listen to them, I hear about 10 mins of sarah cox, and 1hr a week of Emma B (i think) on a thursday morn.
Occassionally I hear Theaky on a saturday, and also I hear whoever is on on a thursday night. I seldom hear anyone else. (except the voices in my head "KILL THEM ALL")

I would say that the first 30 minutes is always the best...

Today I have been listening to Radio 2 all day - from 10:30 last night to still listening to it now with a 4 hour break to sleep and 2 hour break to listen to Mark and Lard. Radio 2 is soooo much better than radio 1.

Not that anyone cares but while I wait for my faggots to cook, just time to throw in my ten cents, my two cents is optional and available by mastercard or postal order.

Notwithstanding the absense of Kevin Greening and the presence of Dave Pearce (who I actually find painful to listen to) I think the current Radio One line up is near on perfect, especially considering the bland idiots that cluttered up the daytime rosta not so long ago, Ball,Cambell, I'Anson,Goodier, etc. Mayo had to go I saw a snail over take his show once, seriously a snail. The weekend schedule on the other hand.....

On the subject of the mystery years you may notice that Radio One rarely play two non-current records in a row let alone a whole hour, personally and also from a business point of view this cannot be a bad thing. Radio One is after all a 'new' music station and repetative or not their playlist should reflect this. There are two BBC stations alone that provide a more varied playlist.

Those of you complaining that Moyles has got worse since his show was extended, for me the old slot was like listening to a very tall man trying to drive a mini cooper. Moyles is a big man (with a big mouth) he needs a big slot to fully flex his vocal skills.

And finally to the people saying they prefer Radio Two in the daytime to Radio One...ARE YOU MAD!!!

My Top Five.

1- Danny Baker (fraid so!)
2- Mark and Lard
3- Moyles
4- Jonothan Ross
5- Evans (in the early days before he went nuts and started going out with monkey woman)
