Hi all, am currently going through the sound vault for Chris and re-organising the files.

The main point of the re-sort is for the clips to be re-categorised and have the file names and MP3 tags sorted.

What would be helpful is if people could say how they organise their MP3's, obviously not everyone will be the same but seeing the general jist of it all.

At the moment i'm naming like so:

ads_acci-cash.mp3
catchphrases_come-on.mp3

And tagging:

Title: Brief Summary
Artist: Chris Moyles
Album: The show, i.e. Early Bit, Afternoon, Breakfast. . .
Year: 199* or 200*
Genre: Title Of Section, i.e. Spoof Adverts, Catchphrases, Parodies. . .
Comment: http://www.chrismoyles.net
Track: n/a

If anyone thinks that any part of the tags or file re-naming could be different then suggest it.

The point of the tags and filenames are for the end-user, so that when the files are downloaded to people's PC's they're easily viewed and categorised.

I tend to name my files (well the few i do have at the moment) 'Chris Moyles Parody - ....' or 'Chris Moyles Jingle - abcdef' or if its a specific clip, add the date 'Chris Moyles Feature - date - viaduct the revenge'

I suggest you do it like:

eg: Parody - date - clip title
eg: Catchphrase - date - clip title

I personally wouldn't put the category name on the front of the file name. On my computer I put them in sub directories of their own so to me that would be pointless having every file within that category with the cat. name on front of it (making sense).

I think 'clipname_date.ext' would be more suitable. (Wouldn't really work for older clips though..) I think they are easier to look at that way to find certain clips. To me it would make more sense to keep the file names as short as possible and then have a more in depth description in the Summary.

It sound's fine, but it might be nice to have the date or year at the start of the file name, e.g. 2004-01-28-parody-title.mp3 . I guess this would take loads or research, though.

Cheers for doing this, Dickie.

yeah, years are mainly blank apart from clips since i started recording. Mostly pre-2002 clips are not specified as to their year.

Wouldn't it be more useful to have an actual name before the date though?

If it was a tedious link named 'TediousLink_010104.mp3' then there could be 'TediousLink_050503.mp3' aswell, features that are the same will be next to each other. Simply pressing T (for tedious link) will take you to the file. This would also make all the older clips without dates actually fit in the rest more.

Just my opinion. Sounds ok anyway Dickie so well done for taking it on.

Okay, okay. It's just nice to have the date first (in XP at least) so it is sorted into date order, but it needs to go YYMMDD for this to work. How about parody-980129-name.mp3 ? Then most people would be happy.

Thanks again Dickie, this must take ages.
