It wasn't an amazing film, but it had some funny bits... I wouldn't name it anywhere near my all time favourites, although the Chinese 'and then' woman was funny.

Return of the King is probably the best film I have seen since Star Wars. I have a heart of stone but was almost close to tears at one point. It took longer than needed to end though, and my bum was dead from not moving for 3 and a quarter hours. Apparently the extended version of the DVD is going to be around the 5 hour mark!

The Hobbit love worried me a little. The main battle was amazing though, but I almost shouted out loud at the bit when Eowyn took on the Witch King, I thought she was gonna get her ass kicked and didn't want anything to happen to her, shes rather tasty, probably my favorite character.

I thought the battle scenes in the two towers were better.

It was a bit silly how all the dead soldiers came along and trounced everyone.

The Battle For Helm's Deep was more tense and had a more dramatic build up, but the big battle in Return of the King was more epic I think.

I thought that was classic, especially when they all came running out of the boat and kicked the crap out of everyone.

LOTR is an epic film, it touches every emotion that you can feel. so as you rightly said iot shouldnt be compared to a comedy such as Dude wheres my Car.
