Firstly, above post was me - forgot to sign in.

Secondly, I've just re-listened to V4 and the bed that initialy started this topic is Darkness & Light, although Parasite is the newer one that is now used for the opener.

We were both right :D

agreed. it started out as a mere comment on a piece of audio and has turned into a discussion more based around production materials, legalities, etc, etc.

maybe it should either be moved or locked.

but if anyone in such a position were to log on then there's no harm done so they couldn't really do anything. the audio hasnt been uploaded, in fact, quite the opposite - it's been pointed out to everyone that the music will NOT be uploaded, and it's been pointed out why. I just thought it should maybe go into members only as its strayed from the original topic somewhat.

You know, you can just go to http://www.v-theproductionlibrary.com/ and register there to get hold of the CD. I use it for creative work at my agency. All you have to ensure is that you notify mcps if you intend to use any tracks so that they can be licensed.

Hm, that reminds me.

If a student radio station pays PRS a flat fee per broadcast to cover copyright issues, is it exempt from reporting usage of V to them? I've never had any dealings with PRS before, so I don't know the deal. - jc

We use V on a lot of our trailers and beds and we have to advise prs of all the tracks we play on air and beds...

Unless you're covered by some kind of blanket agreement with PRS, the MCPS or the MCPS-PRS Alliance, (e.g. for Hospital Radio, etc, etc) you're required to report usage in the appropriate forms to PRS or MCPS (this depends on what you're doing with the music). If, for example, the music is being broadcast normally (e.g. a CD track as a bed, a record, a TV Theme, etc), this is PRS (Can't remember the name of this form off the top of my head). If you're using the music in production work (e.g. if you're using some of the V Production FX in Jingles, or maybe one of the 30 second cuts plus other FX for a trail, then this is MCPS as it's being put, with other things, onto a different track. The form you need for this is an AFML (Please not that MCPS/PRS won't send these forms out to random people - only bona fide broadcast companies).

Hope that answers your question. (Bloody better do - I've written enough!)

Gotcha, that clears things up in my head.

Do you have any contact details I could use to find out what kind of agreement the station I'm involved with has? I figure as I'm the person who's mainly going to be using this library to make jingles etc, I should be the one to report usage to MCPS. Their web sites aren't too helpful beyond providing e-mail addresses, so I'm hoping there's a person I could speak to on the phone.

You can PM me if you'd rather not disclose the info publicly. Cheers - jc
