I'm guessing thats more of a Sara Cox feature then a breakfast show feature

While she's been away we've had Scott Mills' big ones and Colin and Edith's number twos so it's not just a coxy feature. I do expect it to be dropped next year though. It was obviously put in place in a last ditch attempt to boost coxy's ratings and it is probably still going because she's not officially left that show yet.

I think she is taking her big ones with her, they said on Newsbeat on the day they announced the swap that she would take away the new elements of her show to her new 'drive time' show. Is the feature any good? What exactly happens? It sounds like management invented that feature.

The general idea is to play an hour of number one singles from 9-10am, a way of bringing back older music without the mystery years basically.

Problem is, they don't just play no.1 singles - they play songs from no.1 albums (american no.1 albums aswell) and all the songs end up being recent stuff like black eyed peas, dido, darkness etc. This is normally ok but when you have chance to play non-playlist stuff it would make sense to do it. The suits obviously don't want this though so it's mainly the same as normal anyway.

if they could cut out the crap and keep the classic stuff they play then i think it would be a good idea to carry it over into chris's breakfast show. Mills played the drugs don't work by the verve the other day and smashing pumpkins aswell. If only there was a bit more of that though - even during that hour alone, never mind the station.

Oh, and todays tedious link was fantastic. Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection. I hope that (as Aled suggests) there will be some room within the breakfast show to play some older stuff. In a mystery years/tedious link type of feature perhaps?

I apologise now Aled and I take into account your disclaimers but some of these things are already done here so surely people from here doing it for the radio 1 site devaules this site. Unless Mr Harris is looking to close this site i fail to see why people who are already here shouldn't just help here...

No problem.

Thanks for your help anyway. I DO wish everyone could stop seeing the two websites as in competition! Are you suggesting I should stop posting here and only do that on the BBC website? 'cause clearly if there's competition between the two I should be backing the one I work for?

You're starting to sound like some old BBC people. Why does no-one else see that working together and sharing content is good for everyone? We're never going to be able to compete with the depth of stuff you have and you're never going to have the official stuff like we have.

I feel like we're going 'round in circles here!

ok, fine here goes (bear in mind 1] 95% of these ideas will get lost in BBC politics and 2] if they don't happen you're not allowed to bully me saying I *pomised* anything because right now it's Scott and me who's trying to involve you and neither of us are BBC managers!):

Ok, cheers Aled. I understood that you're not sure if these things will happen, I just wanted some examples of the sorts of things involved. Sorry if I put you on the spot!

That's alright - sorry if I come across snappy. Under a lot of pressure at the moment and EVERYTHING seems to have a hurdle in front of it (havign one of those weeks) - and this just seemed to be the same thing!

List sound alright though? (I know I've asked this before) but any other suggestions? Think blue-sky stuff. There's no reason why as (soon-to-be) the biggest Radio show we can't do some experimental new stuff!

Aled - Apart from yourself - is there anybody else that helps the show like a 2nd BA for example or is it just you that does everything?

5th January - what is the scale of work needed before the show goes out on air? Are you all having a break or is it pilots until the 5th Jan?

It's just me up to now.

Ive never been involved in launching a new show before. The scale of the pilots are huge, we're all going to be working our arses off over the following weeks. There will be a couple of extra hands to help with the workload come the 5th of january as only 3 hours of my working day will be during office hours we need a BA and Prod to continue our work when Rach and I go home.

But if we were sharing content, then surely the BBC site would get more visitors, because it's the one Chris reads out on air. If you had reviews etc. then people would start using the BBC more, and stop coming here. Unless this was the 'official' fan site and Moyles plugged it equally as much as the BBC mini-site, I don't see any way around us competing with each other.

BBC guidelines say that we're not allowed to promote any other websites other than the BBC's own. So he naughtily talks about this website loads already! I don't see why I couldn't ask about getting you an official website. (But then, of course, if you become the "official" website then Chris Moyles is going to need to have a say - and your impartiality would diminsh then surely? How could you knock his show in reviews if you're working for Chris moyles?)

Correct me if im wrong but isn't it the same as any other afternoon show? Just because its the final afternoon show doesn't mean the show is going to be any busier...

Do you think Chris will have changed his mind about the listen again feature when the caller asked him on the last afternoon show?

Who's idea was it to "not look backwards, look forwards", Chris's or managements? I'm sure the fans of the show would have liked you to reminisce about the past 5 years of afternoons a lot more than you did.

Management

But don't worry - there will still be a chance to reminisce a little - not all 5 years but this year's stuff we will

yes it is. We want to do a looking-back show and current thinking is that now the move's happened that show would be a great way of doing it.

So is it going to be an actual "show" as such or is it just going to be the best bits of 2003 between records with no actual links.

You'll probably not confirm this but I assume the show will be a pre-record Aled?
