>As far as most of these choices go, we're talking a spawning shellfish, on a springboard, with a banger up its bottom.
No competition.
Daft Punk

Actually, I've just listened to exerpts from some of the albums and realised some are crap.
Narrowed it down to:
1.Daft Punk
2.Stereophonics
3.Oasis (i never got into them when i was younger and think some of the old stuff might be worth listening to)
press your buttons now :)
[This message has been edited by Monkey (edited 23 June 2001).]

I have Daft Punk, it is class. I have the first two Stereophonics albums and they are both good. Oasis' Definetely Maybe is the best album they've done. Dunno about U2. Their POP album was ok, nothing on Zooropa, which was very good. As for Gorillaz maybe worth a go.
Thank you, my name is Arthur Throbershire.
[This message has been edited by winker (edited 23 June 2001).]

Well yeah if your really into those artists, ad u can only buy ONE album then:
U2 - personally i prefer their older stuff, sample that see if you like it
Daft Punk - I liked their first album better "HOMEWORK".
Gorillaz - i h8 them, so i'll leave it up to someone else to comment on that one
And not really an expert on the Indie/Alternative sound... sorry.
But if your into the whole house/dance scene, i reccommend:
1) Subliminal Sessions with Eick Morillo
2) Yousef - Sun after Dark

Oasis - Whats the Story Morning Glory is my favourite album of all time.
Stereophonics - got both of them, 1st one is probably more familiar to you.
Daft Punk & Gorillaz - Gorillaz is more experimential/Daft Punk if you like the singles - it's more of the same (excellent).
Gorillaz takes a few listens, Morning Glory is oh-so familiar (Wonderwall, etc).
Get all of them! (apart from U2)
the_dr

got all 5 album. here is a short review for all of them plus a couple of recommendations

stereophonics - drifting into more melodic soft rock in the same vein as travis. if u want good lyrics and good guitars, words gets around beats it hands down

gorillaz album is different, experimental and the experiments work, fortunately, altho there are 4 tunes you need that skip button for
u2 album is good after 11pm with a cup of nice cocoa whilst having huge headphones on. tracks are bit samey and no big rock out anthems apart from maybe the new one elevation
daft punk throw any credibility out of the window and hatch out the best album of the year. splashes of their own disco madness intertwinned with moby like gentle music. a must have
oasis album definitley maybe and be here now, i dont know what the fuss is about, be here now is a great album
clare was right about wheatus, a good album albeit only 30 minutes. if you want longevity, steer clear.

UGLYBOBS RECOMMENDS
MUSE - ORIGIN OF SYMMETRY
AVALANCHES - SINCE I LEFT YOU
TRIGGER HAPPY TV VOLUME 2

UGLYBOBS AVOIDS
BLINK 182 - TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS AND JACKET
SPOOKS - SIOSOS
FEEDER - ECHO PARK

I have to REAAAAAAAALLLLLLLY back you up on the Muse recommendation. Let me get this out - I'm not a rock fan, I can't stand it - but I LOVE the muse album. It's fantastic.
Just got the avalaches today - again, fantastic, love the Fronier Psychiatrist tune. Gonna get the Trigger album, 1&2 - and the Banzai album! So many classics, including DJ Sven - Holiday Rap :)
Blink is **** , as usual, but I just got it for teh sake of it. I thought the Feeder album would be good, I might not get it now.
Spooks is good, better than most rap albums (and god knows I've got enough of them recently..)
the_music

I should have known posting about music would launch everbody off, but it's all good stuff everyones writing :)
Ok. *crunches knuckles, prepares for long reply*
Got performance & * the day it came out and listened to it on holiday where it complimented the gorgeous sunshine. So from recommendations i'll get "word gets around."
Got U2 pop, a little belatedly, about a year ago. wicked stuff, but the new album might be a bit samey, so no to that one. i would get it though, if i had more money :)
Oasis - From what I hear i'll have to have a look at a few of them & decide later, after much stubble stroking.
Muse - kick ass. my mate gave me a tape of them ages ago when he was into them & they either supported, or, much more likely were supported by, Seafood (his favourite band at the time). They also are great.
I gave the tape back, forgot about them, and want to get the album NOW.
Travis. hmmm. anyone got the new/the man who album?
Gorillaz. I heard 30 second exerpts of the album today on the internet. hmmm. another of my mates has got a copy, I'll borrow it methinks. It might take a while to understand or just be not very good, i'll stick with it though.
Just listened to the "grandaddy" album which definately goes up in my opinion every time i leave it and go back to it later on.

thanks for your advice.
