Backstreet Boys, As Long As You Love Me

Today's Transcript:

Learn to fly is something a duckling needs to master after it's learned to eat and swim. Swimming is a favourite pastime of David Walliams. David Walliams recently yanked down the trousers of Jeremy Edwards as part of a live performance of 'Little Britain'. 'Little Britain' was a 1996 hit for Dreadzone, who were one of the support acts at the Oasis concerts at Knebworth. Knebworth is also somewhere that Queen have played. Queen's Brian May is married to Anita Dobson, who was in 'Eastenders' as Angie. 'Angie' was a hit for the Rolling Stones, whose former bass player Bill Wyman used to go out with Mandy Smith. Mandy Smith shares the same surname as Robert Smith from The Cure. As well as being medicine, cure is also a word associated with bacon. Bacon sandwiches are the favourite breakfast of our executive producer Rhys, and one of his favourite pop records is today's tedious link, which links to the Backstreet Boys and 'As Long As You Love Me'.

Flaws:

Pianoman, Blurred

Today's Transcript:

If you add up all the members of the Backstreet Boys you get five. Five is a prime number, meaning it's only divisible by itself and one. 'One Love' was a hit for Bob Marley and the Wailers. 'Wailers' rhymes with 'jailers', who are a group of people who might carry around a lot of keys. Keys are normally kept on a ring, while a ring of a different type is what you'd find on a finger. Fingers are what you'd find on a pair of gloves. Gloves are a good idea if you ride a motorcycle. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' was a hit for the Manic Street Preachers. Manic Street Preachers are Welsh, like Lostprophets, whose house Jo Whiley was at yesterday, while today she's going to be in Stockport with Noel Gallagher. Noel Gallagher has never been a fan of Blur, which means he'll probably hate today's track which is based on a Blur classic, which links to Pianoman and 'Blurred'.

Seal, Future Love Paradise

Today's Transcript:

'Piano Man' was also the title of a hit for Billy Joel, whose other famous records include 'We Didn't Start The Fire'. Fire is what can happen if people are careless with matches. 'Matches' rhymes with 'patches', which are what you might see on a quilt. A quilt is what you have on the bed to keep you warm in winter. The famous Shakespearean quote "now is the winter of our discontent" is from the play 'Richard III'. 'Richard III' was also the title of a hit by Supergrass, which charted at number 2. Number 2 is the second highest position you can reach on the chart, which is revealed every week by JK & Joel. JK & Joel normally do the show before us, but at the moment are covering for Scott Mills. Scott Mills shares the same surname as Crispian Mills from Kula Shaker, who love Indian culture. India is somewhere you'd find massive elephants, which are great to watch on the BBC's 'Planet Earth' programme, which on Saturday night was filming great white sharks off the coast of South Africa. One of great white sharks' favourite foods is seal, which links to Seal and 'Future Love Paradise'.

Alien Ant Farm, Movies

Today's Transcript:

Seal is the other half of Heidi Klum, who's from Germany, like Boris Becker. Boris Becker shares the same first name as Boris Yeltsin, who's the former Russian leader from the days when they used to have to queue for bread. Bread is made from yeast, which is also used in the production of beer. Beer, first name Alice, used to present 'Watchdog' with Anne Robinson, who now presents 'The Weakest Link'. Links is a word associated with golf courses. Golf courses often contain sandpits known as bunkers. Bunkers of a different type are like secret boltholes for in an emergency on planet Earth. 'Emergency on Planet Earth' was a hit for Jamiroquai in 1993. 1993 was the year that saw the release of 'Schindler's List', which was a big movie, which links to Alien Ant Farm and 'Movies'.

Blur, The Universal

Today's Transcript:

Movies are the specialist subject of Barry Norman. Barry Norman shares the same surname as Greg Norman, the Australian golfer known as 'the great white'. The Great White is a type of shark that will kill you if you get in its way. Whey features in the story of Little Miss Muffet, who sat on her tuffet when along came a spider. A spider is one of the few creatures in the world that can spin its own web. Web is also a word associated with computers. The computer was invented by Charles Babbage. 'Babbage' rhymes with 'cabbage', which is a vegetable you might boil, like potatoes. Potatoes come in many different types, such as King Edward. King Edward is this week being interviewed by Fern Britton. The word Britain gave us the term Britpop in the 90s, which was all about the battle between Oasis and Blur, which links to Blur and 'The Universal'.

Flaws:

It's not strictly true to say that Charles Babbage invented the computer, and in fact the first programmable computer is credited to Konrad Zuse in 1936 (see http://inventors.about.com/library/blcoindex.htm for a computer history timeline). Also, Britton and Britain are clearly not the same word.

Beverley Knight, Come As You Are

Today's Transcript:

Universal is an adjective meaning everywhere or everyone. 'Everywhere' was a 1988 hit for Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood is a town in Lancashire, just up the coast from Blackpool. Blackpool is famous for its illuminations, which are a major draw for tourists. 'Tourist' was the title of the last album by Athlete. Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that needs to be treated with powder. Powder is a word associated with skiing, which is something you do on a mountain. Big Mountain had a hit with 'Baby I Love Your Way' in 1994. 1994 was also the year that we lost actor Telly Savalas, who's most famous for playing Kojak. The word 'Kojak' shares many of the same letters as 'kayak', which is a type of canoe developed by Eskimo people living in Arctic conditions. In the Arctic it doesn't get light at all during the winter, which means it always looks like night. If you add a 'K' onto the front of 'night' you get 'Knight', as in Beverley Knight, which links to Beverley Knight and 'Come As You Are'.

Bassheads, Is There Anybody Out There

Today's Transcript:

Beverley Knight is from Wolverhampton, as is Goldie. Goldie used to go out with Bjork, who's from Iceland. Iceland is also somewhere you'd associate with Kerry Katona, who is now estranged from Bryan McFadden, who's now with Delta Goodrem, who used to be in 'Neighbours'. 'Neighbours' is filmed in Melbourne, which used to be the capital. The word capital is also asscoiated with letters of the alphabet. The alphabet was invented by the Greeks, who also invented moussaka, which is made with aubergine. If you remove the 'I' and the 'N' from 'aubergine' you're left with 'auberge', which was a hit for Chris Rea. Chris Rea is from Middlesborough, as is Kirsten O'Brien, who's mates with Otis the aardvark. 'Aardvark' is normally one of the first words in the dictonary, which could be verified by Susie Dent from 'Countdown'. 'Countdown' is filmed in Leeds, which is about 60 miles from Bridlington, where they have a coastguard. If you were working as a coastguard and had been called out to a rescue in thick fog you might have to shout "is there anybody out there", which links to the Bassheads and 'Is There Anybody Out There'.

Bon Jovi, Wanted Dead Or Alive

Today's Transcript:

'Is There Anybody Out There' got to number 5. 5ive is the name of the band that launched the career of Abs. Abs are what you get if you go to the gym. 'Gym & Tonic' was a dance tune featuring a sample from a fitness video by Jane Fonda. Jane Fonda's videos total 22. 22 is the number of players who can be on the pitch at any one time during a game of football. The earliest forms of football were believed to have originated in China, although a similar game was played by the Romans. The Romans invented civilisation and public baths. In the olden days, baths were the only way of getting washed before the invention of showers, and this is why they always wash in baths in cowboy films. In cowboy films, if there was a bounty put on the head of an outlaw a poster would go up with the words "Wanted dead or alive", which links to Bon Jovi and 'Wanted Dead Or Alive'.

Flaws:

Dave declared the link seamless, but in fact there were a couple of errors. The earliest public baths were not invented by the Romans, but in fact are found in the ruins in of the Indus Valley Civilization, in the Indian subcontinent; and according to wiki, Jane Fonda has released a total of 23 fitness videos, not 22.

The Beloved, Hello

Today's Transcript:

Bon jovi are from America. 'America' was a recent hit for Razorlight, who visited us during the World Cup in Germany. Germany shares a land border with Poland, which used to be behind the Iron Curtain. Curtains are what you draw at night. 'At Night' was a hit in 2002 for Shakedown. Down is the opposite of up in the world of lifts. Americans call lifts elevators, in the same way that they call motorways freeways. Freeway was the name of the dog in 'Hart To Hart', which starred Stephanie Powers. Special powers are what Superman had lots of. When Superman wasn't Superman he was called Clark Kent. Kent is a county that has excellent transport links to France. If you travel to France and meet a Frenchman who says 'bonjour' he would actually be saying 'hello', which links to The Beloved and 'Hello'.

The 80s is the decade also remembered for breakdancing. One of the finest breakdancing collectives was the Rocksteady Crew, who scored a hit with 'Hey You The Rocksteady Crew' in 1983. 1983 was the year of the birth of Lucy pinder. Lucy Pinder is mates with Michelle Marsh, who's from Oldham, as is Mark Owen from Take That. The Cure, In Between Days

Today's Transcript:

'Blink' rhymes with 'wink', which are both things you do with your eyes. 'Eyes Without A Face' was Billy Idol's first hit in 1984. 1984 was the year that the Olympics were held in Los Angeles, and Zola Budd represented the UK, even though she was actually South African, a bit like Kevin Pietersen, who goes out with Jessica from Liberty X. Liberty X are made up of those that didn't make it into Hear'say, like Myleene Klass, who was in the jungle. 'The Jungle Book' features a character called Baloo the Bear. Bears like to eat salmon, which can be found in both the sea and in rivers. Joan Rivers is a comedienne who's rumoured to have had some cosmetic surgery done, like Sylvester Stallone's mum Jackie. Cosmetic surgery should be done by a qualified doctor, and doctors also write out prescriptions, so that you can go to the chemists and get your medicine which you hope will be the cure, which links to The Cure and 'In Between Days'.

The KLF, Last Train To Transcentral

Today's Transcript:

The Cure are fronted by Robert Smith, who's got black hair that he backcombs a lot, like Russell Brand. A different type of hare is related to a rabbit. 'Rabbit' was a record by Chas & Dave, who appeared at Chris' birthday show in February. February is month number two. Two multiplied by 12 gives you 24, which is the date in April when my birthday falls, making me a Taurus. Taurus is symbolised by a bull. A bull is something you wouldn't want to see in your shop if you sold china. China is the world's largest producer of rice. Rice, first name Tim, makes musicals, a bit like Andrew Lloyd Webber. If you swap the last letter of 'Webber' for a 'D' you get 'webbed', which is how you might describe the feet of a duck. The last letter of 'duck' is 'K', and if you add an 'L' and an 'F' to 'K' you get 'KLF', which links to the KLF and 'Last Train to Transcentral'.

KLF's Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty once burned loads of money. 'Money To Burn' was a hit for Richard Ashcroft. Richard Ashcroft used to be in The Verve, whose track 'Bittersweet Symphony' featured a sample from the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger is from Dartford, famous for its tunnel. 'Tunnel' rhymes with 'funnel', which is something you might use if you were decanting petrol. Petrol prices fluctuate depending on the price of crude oil. Oyl, first name Olive, was the girlfriend of Popeye. Popeye had lots of tattoos, a bit like Fearne Cotton. Cotton is grown in fields. 'Fields of Gold' was a 1993 hit for Sting. Transvision Vamp, Baby I Don't Care

Today's Transcript:

Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which is in the Middle East, a bit like Dubai. Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates, which are known as the UAE. If you swap the 'A' and the 'E' in 'UAE' around you get 'UEA', which is the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Norwich is a lovely city, full of beautiful people. 'Beautiful People' was a hit for Barbara Tucker. 'Tucker' rhymes with 'zucker', which is the German word for sugar. 'Sugar Sugar' was a hit for The Archies in 1969, the same year that Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. The moon tends to be easier to see at night. Night follows day, while Day, first name Darren, appeared in 'Celebrity Scissorhands' along with Rowetta from the Happy Mondays, who had a hit with 'Step On' in 1990. 1990 was the year that 'Twin Peaks' started, which was directed by David Lynch, who also directed the film 'Blue Velvet'. David James is now at Portsmouth, who are managed by Harry Redknapp, who's the dad of Jamie Redknapp, who's married to Louise Redknapp, who used to be in Eternal. Eternal were one of Chris Moyles' favourite bands, so much so that he went to see them in concert in Wolverhampton. Wolverhampton has produced many famous people, including Mark of Sam & Mark and Tessa Sanderson. Tessa Sanderson was a top javelinist, a bit like Fatima Whitbread, who won BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1987. 1987 was the year that Joss Stone was born in Dover, which is famous for its sole, which is a type of fish. Other types of fish include cod, mackerel and halibut. If you were to describe the colour of halibut you'd say it's sort of brown. Brown, first name Ian, was the lead singer of the Stone Roses, which links to the Stone Roses and 'She Bangs The Drums'.
