Uglybobs View (if anyone cares)
Today was a landmark. Rather than coming out and saying that Sara Cox was losing too many listeners, they decided to switch her with Chris Moyles. This now means that Chris will have to get up at 5am every morning to be in for 7am but it does mean he can now watch Countdown during the day on Channel 4. So is it a good move? Im slightly disappointed in that less core listeners will listen to Chris show.
The best possible move would have been to put Colin and Edith on breakfast, sack Cox and keep Moyles where he is.
The staple breakfast show should be less features, more music and travel updates but as you know Chris doesnt like that. The weather, news and music seem too trivial for him.
The main listeners will not listen to the whole show probably because they are going to work for 9 etc. He. of course needs Dave to be with him as I dont think he could cope on his own. He prefers a bit of interaction and someone to demean, rather than the callers.
I expect something to happen to Mark and Lard in the near future which will mean a complete new line-up. They seem to not like Scott Mills so he wont get the gig, which is a shame because God love him, he tries his best, unlike the dullards like Jo Whiley and Nemone. Cut out the dead wood and keep the personalities. If people want to listen to good music played by people who love the music and know about the music then tune in to 6 Music. Radio 1 is popular music and should be 24 hours a day. Put all the alternative stuff all on its own, call it Radio 8, so you have Peel, Westwood, Peterson, Hobbs etc in prime time slots instead of 1am at night when noone will hear them.
The jury is out. It is expected Chris will start in the second week of January in his new slot. Will he be successful like Zoe Ball or will fall flat on his arse like Mark and Lard. Im predicting the latter im afraid, I think the listeners are too thick for him at that time in the morning.
